Written By: Marissa Kohne New South Bay Restaurants

Recently, LOCALE Magazine and Wells Fargo sponsored a poll to see which new South Bay restaurants were reader favorites. Among the admirable contenders, four delectable eateries rose to the surface of choice. Covering the wide variety of culinary genres, you’ll find the winners to be innovative, casual yet elevated, and above all, welcoming. Extensive lists of gourmet drinks and inspired plates await your hungry dinner party in the South Bay region. So if you haven’t had the opportunity to sample their creative, delicious menus, now’s your chance!

Rebel Republic Social House

Owned by Paul Hennessey, noted restaurateur and founder of the Hennessey Group of restaurants, Rebel Republic Social House is a breath of fresh air in Riviera Village. It’s the amplified, contemporary cousin to your traditional bar, serving an enticing array of modern gastropub dishes with bold flavors. Enjoy the impeccable atmosphere of Redondo Beach as you sit outside on the patio, delighting in the gastropub/fine-food fusion menu and carefully chosen, extensive list of beers and cocktails. Pair an order of their signature fried deviled eggs, topped with whipped egg yolk and bacon, with a draft beer, or enjoy a full 12 hours of Taco Tuesday, starting every week at 11 a.m. While the food and drinks make repeat customers, the largest pull for the restaurant is the outdoor dining deck. The City of Redondo Beach initiated a new program to attract more visually appealing outdoor seating along Catalina Ave. To answer the call, Rebel Republic’s deck turned parking spots into something much more inspiring. You’ll be hard pressed to find anything quite like Rebel Republic in the area and it’s no surprise it’s a reader favorite!

Baran’s 2239

With a kitchen run by Executive Chef Tyler Gugliotta’s diverse and practiced culinary hand, your appetite is guaranteed to be delighted by a trip to Baran’s 2239. Owners and brothers Jonathan and Jason Baran strove to create something new on the PCH with a casual yet elevated restaurant serving only the freshest, in-house made dishes and pioneering flavor profiles. You probably wouldn’t expect such a fine dining experience in a strip mall, but you certainly won’t be disappointed with dishes such as the duck confit poutine and the quirky but tasty Indian egg, a runny egg wrapped in sausage and served with a cucumber yogurt salad. It’s absolutely evident that your experience is important to the chefs and you’ll often see them emerge from the kitchen to present your meal or answer questions. With an intimate atmosphere and impeccable presentation, Baran’s 2239 is a fantastic opportunity for a romantic date night or a casual group dinner.
