The Luxury Cinema Prepares a Celebration for Their Grand Reopening

Movie night has just become a lot more glamorous for Del Mar residents. After temporarily closing for extensive renovations, Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas is reopening its doors to the public at its original San Diego location in Del Mar Heights Town Center.

But you don’t have to purchase a ticket to celebrate the beloved theater’s return to high-class entertainment. On Saturday, May 13, Cinépolis USA will mark the occasion with a day-long, family-friendly event that is sure to honor the company’s original American branch with style.

Since its initial unveiling in 2011, Cinépolis Del Mar has been dedicated to providing customers with the ultimate movie-watching experience, complete with luxurious leather seats, superior waiters, a bar that serves exclusive drinks, and an in-house restaurant that offers delectable appetizers. However, beginning in September 2016,  the theater decided to close its doors for a few months and upgrade its facilities to guarantee the best possible service for the community. According to National Marketing Manager, Annelise Holyoak, the refurbishment has included constructing three additional viewing rooms, adding several hundred reclining seats and revamping the bathrooms and the kitchen area, as well as increasing accessibility through a brand new parking structure.

With mere days to go before the grand reopening, San Diegans young and old can certainly look forward to the festivities taking place at Cinépolis Del Mar. The event will feature fun and games for all ages, prizes and goodies for winners and music courtesy of a DJ. Attendees will receive popcorn on the house, and for $10, adult participants can enjoy a special cheese and wine pairing. Moreover, during the celebration, Cinépolis will officially denote an emerging partnership with the Del Mar Art Center, whose works from up-and-coming San Diego artists will be placed on display or even put up for sale.

Festivities aside, the Cinépolis reopening event is also intended to benefit a worthy cause. The funds received from food purchases, namely the cheese and wine combination, will be given to The Vision of Children Foundation, a local nonprofit. Founded in 1991 by Steve and Vivian Hardage, whose son was diagnosed with a hereditary eye disorder, Vision of Children seeks to find a cure for genetic vision impairment and restore sight to blind children. The organization’s monetary contributions to research and unwavering support of the scientific community have resulted in significant advances in treatments for eye diseases including new types of gene therapy. Representatives will be present throughout the celebration and are set to participate in the opening proceedings.

As Cinépolis Del Mar enters this exciting new phase, its main priority is to be “the number one entertainment destination in San Diego,” says Holyoak. Considering that it was voted best theater in a San Diego Union Tribune poll for three consecutive years, that position still seems pretty secure.
