School’s…out… for the summer! With the kiddos on school break and college students on a much needed retreat, the demand for healthy, tasty and fresh summer treats is high. People of all ages deserve a delicious and refreshing snack during the hottest California heat waves—or just an average weekday! Question: Summer is a time that is rich in seasonal fruits and fresh flavors. How does Modern Pop utilize those aspects in the product?
Julie Podolec: Celebrating fruit is core to our brand. By “Putting Fruit First, ” we pledge to make whole fruit the first and primary ingredient in all of our products. Also, since we think fruit tastes great as is, we don’t like to mess with it. Beyond the whole strawberries, raspberries and pineapple in our bars, we keep our other ingredients as minimal as possible. Modern Pop frozen fruit bars
Q: What makes you different from other frozen fruit bar brands on the market right now?
JP: Ingredients, ingredients, ingredients. We believe we are the first brand in our category to list our ingredients on the front of our boxes. We showcase them front and center. We think transparency is really important, especially when it comes to what we eat, and what we choose to give to our families. We have also avoided refined sugar, which reduces our overall added sugar content.
Q: What was the inspiration for Modern Pop? Modern Pop frozen fruit bars
JP: We started Modern Pop in 2013 when we couldn’t find a fruit bar suitable enough for our teething infant. We saw a need to remove artificial ingredients, reduce sugar content and add more fruit!
Q: Can you explain what it means to add a “Pop of Color” and a “Pop of Life” to your products?
JP: Beyond creating great-tasting, healthy products; we see a major opportunity to improve branding in foods. Think of the clothing brands that you associate with the California lifestyle. Now think of the foods brands that you associate with California lifestyle. There is an opportunity to capture the essence of a lifestyle in foods brands and we want to help enable that experience. Through Modern Pop, we endeavor to create a California inspired “Pop of Color” and a “Pop of Life” in otherwise stale foods categories.

JP: Strawberry Lemonade
Q: Do you have any new flavors in the works?
JP: Yes, we can’t wait to introduce what is in the works, but you will have to wait until this fall!
