I’d like to take a moment to shine a light on a talented man named David Henri. If by no other means, you’ll at least know David because his misty sea-scape of So Cal graced the cover of Locale’s So Cal Holiday Guide I helped put together. We thought it would be interesting to pit an image of Southern California winter against the stereotypical scape of a mountainous, snowy winter. The result was stunning in our opinion, and yes we are biased.
David was cool enough to let us use his beautiful photo for the guide. So we’d like to give a shout out to him. He’s an all around creative, with fingers in quite a few artistic pies. He’a created video or photo content that has appeared in movies like Thor, The Social Network, Contagion, Angels & Demons. His work has been shown in JPG Magazine (featured), Resource Magazine, Schmap.com travel website. His pinup work has been commissioned for a specialty iPhone application. He has an insane aptitude for filmmaking, and has worked on film projects for major feature films and television shows. I mean, he’s worked with some of the best: Steven Soderbergh, Ron Howard, Ang Lee, and the mighty Steven Spielberg!
Right now Henri is working on his own indie film called Finding Focus, which he wrote, and will direct and produce. Check out details on the project here: findingfocusfilm.com

680 Roosevelt Proudly Presents “Metropolitan Impressions” Exhibit Opening Reception
(IRVINE, California) Alternative arts space 680 Roosevelt will showcase the grand and gritty cityscapes of printmaking artist Lindsay Buchman in her first solo exhibit titled “Metropolitan Impressions”, which kicks off with an opening reception on Saturday, August 27th, 2011, from 5pm to 7pm. The reception will exude metropolitan-cool, with live music, attire set to urban chic, tan industrial contemporary studio setting, award-winning art lining the walls, and food and beverage sponsorships by 118 Degrees raw foods and Peet’s Coffee.
Lindsay Buchman’s “Metropolitan Impressions” exhibit is a body of work that stems from the artist’s lifetime love affair with New York City and the ambition the city embodies. Buchman’s art in this printmaking series seeks to capture the energy of being submersed in a metropolitan society. Her weathered, grimy-feeling prints of soaring skyscrapers and mammoth bridges pit the vitality of man’s creativity against the traditions and toils of an urban culture. Lindsay uses layers of bold colors, newspaper clippings, and printmaking techniques to create deep representations of man’s attempts to be remembered, to leave a monument in his memory. All the while, time, weather, change, and the ambitions of others threaten to wear these monuments down and move them over for new ones. The result is an ever-changing yet forever nostalgic city.
Through this print series, Lindsay not only commemorates the search for legacy, she also presents her own journey to make a mark. Lindsay Buchman strives to change the way people perceive the art of printmaking. Often misinterpreted as craft, Lindsay is determined to show another side of printmaking – the fine art side. By combining painting, collagraph, monoprint, intaglio and relief techniques, and infusing thoughtful meaning into her pieces, Lindsay takes an old and somewhat forgotten art technique, and reinvents it into a relevant offering for the art world.
Pretty ambitious for a 23 year-old. But that’s the attraction of Lindsay Buchman. She’s a local artist, with plenty of heart and ambition. She intends to share it with the world, beginning with her own community. Born and raised in Mission Viejo, California, Lindsay is currently attending California State University Long Beach where she is pursuing a bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Printmaking. She is already turning heads in the local printmaking community. Lindsay has been a member of the Los Angeles Printmaking Society for the past 5 years, and is currently a printmaking instructor at Irvine Fine Arts Center. Buchman is one of the youngest artists to ever display work at the Festival of Arts in Laguna Beach, she has had her work displayed at galleries in New York City and Los Angeles, and she has most recently had her work accepted into the prestigious Boston Printmakers 2011 North American Print Biennial, whose juror is the renowned pop artist Jim Dine.
“Metropolitan Impressions” can be seen at Bikram Yoga’s alternative arts space, 680 Roosevelt in Irvine, through January of 2012. The local press and general public is invited to the opening reception at 680 Roosevelt on Saturday, August 27th, from 5p.m.-7p.m. All of Buchman’s art works are for sale. The evening’s dress attire is urban chic. Cover charge is $10 online (www.BikramYogaIrvine.com) and $15 at the door.
