Q: Why are you passionate about the beauty industry?

Kaitlyn Dobrow: It’s something that I’ve always liked to do. When I got sick, there were a lot of things that were more challenging to do, and it just wasn’t worth it to me, but makeup was. So, it’s an outlet for me in a way.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration for your makeup tutorials?

KD: Some of them I make up. I watch a lot of Youtube and a lot of Instagram, and that’s kind of where I get my inspiration; seeing what they come up with and saying, ‘That looks really cool, I want to try that!’

Q: What materials do you enjoy working with the best?

KD: It’s a pain, but I love liquid eyeliner. I really love the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner. I love the way it looks, I don’t like applying it. I love messing around with lipsticks and eyeshadows. I really like MAC and Urban Decay, and then lipstick I am kind of all over the place, I like all of them.

Q: What has surprised you the most about being social media famous?

KD: It surprises me how many videos get shared. The fact that I was one of them is really cool. You go on that explore page on Instagram and all of a sudden, ‘Oh my God.’ It’s just so weird. It was also pretty awesome how nice people were. People are usually nice to me because they probably are like, ‘I don’t want to say anything mean, she has no arms or legs!’ But, it was really sweet and it was surprising how supportive people were.

Q: What is the highest compliment you could receive from your followers?

KD: That they love the makeup that I did or that they want to try themselves. It’s just really awesome, it’s just like, ‘Oh, I want to see what you come up with!’

Q: After being diagnosed with meningitis, you lost both your arms and legs. What are some challenges you faced and how did you overcome them?

KD: The challenges mostly were dropping things. I drop a lot of things or I can’t pick up a lot of things, so I make funny faces or weird noises without thinking about it. The way I got over that is to just laugh at myself and see how funny it would look to someone else making these weird faces and stuff.

Q: What message do you hope your videos are conveying to your followers?

KD: That they can laugh and have fun no matter what. Mostly to just be happy. I just like the fact that a lot of people will say, ‘You make me laugh’ or ‘You make my day.’ I think that’s what I want the message to be; you can be happy and to just joke around.
