Good things come to those who wait. Residents of North County and visitors to Carlsbad Village have been waiting for months for Park 101, a groundbreaking, multi-use establishment, to open its doors. The complex was originally scheduled to be operating in January, but the establishment now has its sights set on a July opening day. The complex aims to be the first of its kind in North County, offering a plaza-like format and housing a variety of services for visitors and community members.

The 8,000 square foot complex, with its $5 million development price tag, will offer a full-service restaurant and bar, along with a “grab and go” market counter, a BBQ restaurant, rooftop patio with fire pits and cozy seating and an indoor/outdoor garden pub. Grab and go offerings will be available via a walk-up window and will include items like sandwiches, juices, coffee, ice cream sandwiches and donuts.

“Our conceptual objective is to create a community gathering place for families, locals, active professionals, and tourists while paying homage to the rich agricultural history of the Village of Carlsbad. We aim to provide a new concept that brings quality food, drink, and the bustling community together, all in a park-centric atmosphere,” General Manager Jennifer Pohlkamp said.

The open-air, plaza-like concept of the structure will allow visitors to enjoy Southern California’s greatest asset—beautiful weather and almost constant sunshine. Visitors will be able to enjoy beach breezes and So-Cal sun while they sample barbecue favorites, sip beverages and enjoy the other guests at Park 101. The concept marries the outdoors of a park, with the sense of a community, and tops it off with great food and beverage options.

The focus of the venue, according to Pohlkamp, is really on family and community. The establishment aims to bring people together in a space where they can enjoy each other, as well as indulge in great food and drinks. The public garden will be a mecca of activity for visitors, with many items on the agenda for the space.

“This area will be floored with quality turf grass, and complete with fire pit seating and game area. The game area will include lawn games. This entire area will give you that genuine park feel, as it will be family, dog, and fun friendly. Within the garden, there will plenty of treats and fun twists on classics for the children,” said Pohlkamp.

The space will also have an indoor/outdoor beer and wine counter, serving craft microbrews and local wines. There are also plans to schedule movie nights, where visitors can camp out and relax in front of a big screen under the stars. Park 101 has some exciting plans in the works and aims to be a go-to spot for both locals and visitors.

“With its historical premise and casual setting, we are bringing a fresh and unique concept that provides something for everyone. There is nothing like this in the area.  We think our SoCal barbecue-inspired smoked meats, sandwiches, salads, and treats will satisfy those of all the locals, the active community and the families that make up Carlsbad and its surrounding areas,” Pohlkamp said.
