I know, a whole day dedicated to one of the tastiest most versatile beverages ever, who knew? But let’s not question it, let’s just enjoy it and use Wednesday as a good excuse to start spring break a little early as nothing says, “I’m on vacay” quite like a cool, refreshing, perfectly sweet margarita in hand—but who really needs a good excuse to drink margaritas? So, get in the SoCal spirit and check out our list of a few choice spots that are serving up some exceptional margaritas. Stop in at any of these spots for a drink, or two, or three (it’s National Margarita Day, no one is judging).

Prickly Pear

When you find yourself prowling the streets for a great cocktail, be sure to visit Eight4Nine in Palm Springs for an elegant experience. The visually stunning and sophisticated atmosphere of the restaurant is enough to make you want to hang out for a while and have a good conversation lubricated by a good drink. We recommend making that drink the Prickly Pear. Colored a beautiful deep purple, this margarita offers a balanced sweetness of agave nectar and prickly pear juice complimented by Milagro Silver tequila and cut with a citrus twist of fresh lime juice. The drink is served on the rocks and garnished with fresh lime to accentuate the citrus notes with fresh aromatics. This is a great spot for sophisticated atmosphere and flavors.

Raspberry Peach Cadillac Margarita

For those seeking a more traditional experience, Don Diego’s of Indian Wells offers an authentic Mexican dining experience and a Raspberry Peach Cadillac Margarita that is sure to get you in the spirit of margarita day. The combination of Sauza Gold tequila, triple sec and a sweet and sour mix all topped with a Grand Marnier float is sure to zing your taste buds with crisp tartness and a smooth sweet finish. Pair this with a couple grilled shrimp tacos, now it’s a fiesta.

Jimador Margarita

This next spot is called Fresh Agave, and with a name like that you know they take their tequila and thus, their margaritas seriously. Located in Palm Desert, Fresh Agave takes a classic and fresh approach to traditional Mexican cuisine and serves a variety of specialty margaritas. For those that enjoy the pizazz of fresh citrus, we recommend the Jimador Margarita. This drink is a perfect marriage of fresh orange, lime and lemon juice, as well as orange liqueur, El Jimador tequila and a float of Grand Marnier. The El Jimador tequila blends so well with the sweetness of the orange juice that you may want to consider swapping it with your usual brunch time mimosa or bloody mary to make this margarita your new a.m. go to—it’s good to start the day with some Vitamin C, right?

Organic Margarita

Our next destination is a favorite of Palm Springs locals. Las Casuelas Terraza offers traditional Mexican fare and two gorgeous outdoor patio-dining areas. It’s an ideal setting where you can sit back, throw on your favorite shades and sip a cool drink with some close friends or have a romantic lunch date with that special someone. Whoever you’re with or even if you’re treating yourself to a moment of solitude with a tasty cocktail, the Organic margarita will not disappoint. This simple, refreshing margarita is as fresh and natural as the outdoor atmosphere. Featuring a pesticide-free mix of Azunia organic tequila, organic lime juice, agave nectar and a splash of club soda, the Organic Margarita will please both the health-conscious and the flavor-conscious.

Wild Coyote Margarita

Up next, is the Wild Coyote Margarita from Blue Coyote Bar and Grill in Palm Springs. This Southwestern style restaurant fashions a powerful mix of gold tequila, orange curacao and fresh lime juice to create a potent but not overwhelming margarita that does justice to its exciting name. When looking for a stiff drink with some sweet and fresh elements in the glass, look no further than the Wild Coyote Margarita, it will simply and tastily get the job done. We all have that “wild” member in the crew, and he or she would appreciate your suggestion of this potent beverage. But hey, maybe it’s you that is un poco loco, if so, you know what to do.

Cadillac Margarita

Last, but certainly not least, on our list of margarita hot spots is Rio Azul Mexican Bar and Grill located in Palm Springs. Taste their ultra popular Cadillac Margarita and find out why they can boast such praiseworthy credentials. Rio Azul fashions this classic with fresh lime, Herradura Reposado tequila, Gran Gala and a dash of agave nectar, all served in a chilled glass with a salted rim and garnished with a lime wedge. Aside from the deliciously familiar yet complex flavor, the best part about this margarita is that it is served in only one size, large! So, when you stroll into Rio Azul, show you mean business and order a Cadillac Margarita, your taste buds will thank you.
