For years, Ocean Beach and Point Loma has been home to some of the best up-and-coming restaurants in San Diego. In fact, each summer there is a street fair and chili cook-off with many of these foodie-favorite restaurants. Though it’s a tough race for the best in Ocean Beach and Point Loma, these six new spots are definitely candidates.

 

Little Lion Cafe

On a Saturday morning, you can smell the Fresh Homemade Granola from outside the quaint doors of this hidden Point Loma gem. Unique in its own right, the daytime menu offers a wide variety of items ranging from Super Food Bowls to Prosciutto and Burrata Sandwiches. Save room for some brunch dessert because the Chia Seed Pudding and Fresh Fruit Bowl with Lemon Curd and Whip Cream are enough to fill you up until nap time. Back for more? The dinner menu’s amazing fresh Shrimp Cocktail and Steak Sandwich with shaved vegetables and caramelized onions are the perfect late night bites. Add the Apple Crisp and Bread Pudding to finish, and you have one amazing meal.

Mess Hall

Known for the perfect Sunday Roast, they put a new twist on an old classic. Located in Liberty Public Market, grab some sweet treats from the local vendors before you indulge in your Sunday meal. Mess Hall is the perfect place to enjoy your Sunday evening with slow cooked Beef Roast accompanied with Carrots and Spring Onions. The open atmosphere at Mess Hall allows the mouth-watering aromas to fill the restaurant and bring you back to your moms kitchen on a summer Sunday evening. The Spring Berry Tart is the perfect ending to a filling Sunday meal. Stop by on any given night and enjoy a meal accompanied with a selection of wine pairings perfectly chosen for each course.

Fireside

Located in the heart of Liberty Station, this is the perfect place for a group to grab some drinks. You can hear the laughter from table to table as specialty cocktails are consumed on the open air patio. The Vodka Mules paired with the Wood-Fired Mussels and the Make Your Own Margaritas are a Fireside specialty. Room for more? The Smoked Pork Rib and Cheeseburger are fan favorites. Fireside has taken classic dishes and placed their own fiery twist on everything they make. Make sure to make a reservation or get there early, as its hopping at 6:00 p.m. any night of the week.

Cane Patch Kitchen

Also located at Liberty Public Market, this is where soul food meets sinful indulgence. While Cane Patch Kitchen may be relatively new there is already a line of people out the door. There is a true down-home vibe that makes any food lover feel right at home from the second they step foot into this old-fashioned meets new world restaurant. Close your eyes while you absorb all the smells and you’d think you’re back in New Orleans on a spring day. Whatever you order will be an excellent choice just add a side of the homemade Mac and Cheese and save room for the classic Southern desserts. Beignets and Sweet Potato Pies are a must to end your Southern feast properly.

Mastiff Sausage Company

This is not just any ordinary food truck. M.S.C. is located in the center of Liberty Public Market at their permanent stall. Walking up to the truck you can smell the amazing Classic Bratwurst and Italian Meatballs being cooked to perfection. One of the best things about M.S.C. food truck is all of the custom toppings that you can add on to your meal. Bacon Crumble, Caramelized Onions, House Kraut, Roasted Poblano Peppers and Bleu Cheese. This upscale and tasty food truck is a one stop shop for a midday snack.

Known as the future of fast food, Plant Power Fast food has an amazing variety of fast foodto kick any In-N-Out burger to the curb. Located on Sunset Cliff Blvd, PPFF has one of the best Cheeseburgers this town has to offer!
