Enjoy Some Twists on This Classic Dish at These LA Restaurants

Written By: Nicole Fera

There are fewer things in this world that scream breakfast like a delicious Eggs Benedict, but did you know that it originated as a hangover cure? In 1894, a Wall Street broker named Lemuel Benedict ordered some buttered toast, crispy bacon, poached eggs and some Hollandaise sauce to smother it all in. Wa la! The amazing combination turned into what we know as Eggs Benedict today and since then chefs have been elevating it and making the dish their own. From the classics to the creative, you can’t go wrong with any of these choices.

BLD is Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner and everything you could want in between. This Los Angeles favorite serves up some delicious and unique food all day long for whichever meal you are craving, but for Eggs Benedict, there’s obviously only one way to go. You can enjoy any of their amazing Benedicts from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily and the choices are not only bountiful, but each extremely unique and, of course, delicious. If you are looking to step out of the box try their Vegan Benedict, which is made with smoked tofu bacon, veggie patties, wilted arugula, vegan English muffins, Hollandaise and some tasty potatoes on the side. This meal will leave you feeling full, satisfied and energized for the rest of your day.

The Churchill

The Churchill is one of those places that we love for so many different reasons. It is a warm and inviting Gastropub that is located right in the heart of West Third Street, an area filled with amazing bars and restaurants to check out. They pride themselves on curing all of their own meats, making their pasta and breads fresh and keeping things as local and homemade as possible. This definitely comes through in all of their food and craft cocktails, and their take on eggs Benedict is no different. You can find their benny on their brunch menu and it consists of a cheddar jalapeño biscuit, black forest ham (that they cure themselves), arugula and a spicy Hollandaise to top it all off. Get in there and see why so many LA locals have made this their go-to brunch spot.

The Rockefeller

The Rockefeller has all the makings of the perfect place to spend your weekends brunchin’ with friends and family, and relaxing after a long week. Everything about this place is laid back, mellow, and friendly—much like its location here in Manhattan Beach. When visiting for the holiday you’ll be able to order up their Pork Belly Benedict, which comes with a poached egg, pork belly, tomato, cheesy grits, asparagus and their Rockefeller sauce, which makes everything taste better. The combination of flavors in this dish is unbelievable and although it might be your first time having the dish, it certainly will not be your last.

Native Knowledge: Use the underground parking lot on Morningside Drive at 12th Street for a lot more parking that most people don’t know about.

The Hudson

The Hudson in West Hollywood is the perfect place for enjoying one of their delicious Eggs Benedict outside on a beautiful day. Since the weather is amazing more often that not here in LA, we think it’d be a safe bet to plan on dining on their patio. You’ll experience their rustic décor complete with fifty food trees, hanging bulbs, candles, distressed metal and rustic wood. While the patio is a huge plus, let’s not forget why you’ve venturing there in the first place: to celebrate just how amazing eggs benedict can be. The Hudson offers two types of bennies, but our favorite is their crab cake version. This meal comes complete with Red Rock crab, poached eggs, bearnaise sauce, focaccia bread, market greens and potatoes. Grab some friends and a seat outside and dig in!
