San Francisco is a gourmet’s paradise, especially when it comes to alcohol. Whether it’s happy hour, late night cocktails, or a weekend party that you’re looking for, there are no shortages of craft cocktails and micro brews in the Bay. Here are some of our favorite trendy bars that all have a unique characteristics that keep us coming back for more.
Let’s kick this list off with a bar and restaurant that is a beer lover’s dream. We are fortunate to have such a wide variety of amazing local beers all over California, but Belga opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Their beer, wine and cocktail lists are incredibly extensive, so this is the perfect spot to try something new. The atmosphere and restaurant itself is open and lively, so it’s a great place to meet with friends or enjoy a happy hour with your coworkers. It has a great sophistication about it without losing any of the charm and that is why we love it so.

Forgery is the type of bar that has a perfect blend of modern and classic all rolled up into one. Part of the reason for this is the fact that although it has only been a bar since last year, the building and space is a part of SF history. In its former life it was a printing press and also a glass blowing studio before becoming one of our favorite places to drink at. It has a nice open floor plan, tons of wood and rustic trimmings inside, and most important, delicious cocktails. They pride themselves on elevating the classics that we all know and love and coming up with new featured drinks made from fresh ingredients. A recipe for success.

At first glance this spot might not come to mind as the trendy bar you were looking for, but all you have to do is step inside to appreciate this hidden gem. This is another building that has been on the block for quite some time, but has been transformed into a sweet locals watering hole. The best part about it is the fact that a ton of live music comes through this bar and you can always count on some sweet tunes to go along with your cocktails. Good drinks, friendly localsand good music are all you need for your next great night out.

The Double Standard
The age-old saying about how looks can be deceiving is perfectly portrayed in our next spot known as The Double Standard. When you first arrive here you may not think much of this spot, but after heading inside for a few drinks your opinion will definitely flip. The bar inside is humble, but the outside patio is where you want to be. Their outdoor area features their own little beer garden type setting, which has cool lights hanging everywhere and a warm setting to hang with friends. Every drink on their menu is delicious and will be served to you by a bartender that is just as happy to be there as you are. It’s the little details about this place that make it so special and after one night there you’ll understand why they don’t need a fancy entrance to keep people coming through the door.

Chances are if you live in SF, you’ve either heard about, been to, or absolutely love ABV. This hot spot is a local’s favorite and there are endless reasons why. Although the space is limited, people love the lively, welcoming atmosphere that is a constant at this bar. The drinks are handcrafted and adored, the food is delectable (and not just for bar standards) and the people who run the show are true professionals.

For anyone who loves tasting some unique and always delicious brews, the Tipsy Pig is about to become your home away from home. This is true not only because you’ll be visiting so often, but because it possesses a homey feel from the second you walk in the door. This gastropub has a laid back feel to it whether you are sitting around their warm bar or dining outside on the patio. The staff is also extremely welcoming and attentive, which is also a plus, especially at a crowded bar. The beer and cocktail list is expansive so make sure to try something different each time you go. There are no wrong choices off of that menu.

Doc Ricketts is proudly located in the Jackson Square Historic District, which is a neighborhood that that has a long history in the food world dating back to the gold rush. The building that houses this amazing bar and restaurant dates back to 1911 and still embodies everything that makes this neighborhood so amazing. In fact, the history and culture of Northern California is Doc Ricketts driving force and why it is so special. The atmosphere is light and airy, just like their food and libations and we couldn’t be happier than when spending an afternoon or evening at a place that truly captures what SF is all about.
