Rock and Brews

Must Order: Fire Roasted Green Chili Cheeseburger

Rock and Brews’ menu features eight burgers, but for those with an affinity for spice, look no further than the Fire-Roasted Green Chili Cheeseburger. The foundation of every burger is the patty, and at Rock and Brews, the burgers are fresh ground and hand formed. Iceberg lettuce, red onion and tomato are carefully tucked under the grilled patty. A layer of, not once, but twice melted Pepper Jack cheese is then draped over the meat. The fresh vegetables make an audible crunch when you bite into them, while the cheese adds a creamy yet spicy nuance to the burger.

The Escondite

Must Order: Fat Albert

The Escondite is known for unique creations, but you might have to do a double take when you see the Escondite’s Fat Albert burger. The burger proves that you can indulge in brunch any time of day with its provolone cheese, applewood smoked bacon, maple syrup and a glazed donut bun. You have your choice of patty, either beef, chicken or vegetarian, and a side of either fries or a salad.

Must Order: Pepperoni Pizza Burger

What is better than a meal that fuses two of your favorite foods? At Fat Sal’s, they have created a burger-pizza hybrid. For their Pepperoni Pizza Burger, they stack a hamburger with provolone cheese, mozzarella sticks and pepperoni, then top it off with marinara sauce and a garlic buttered bun. If you have room to spare, add a side of Fat Sal’s famous onion rings to your order.

Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern

If you have always struggled to choose between getting french fries or onion rings with your burger, look no further than the Cowboy Burger at Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern in Santa Monica. The massive burg will be a sight for hungry eyes, stacked tall with a thick onion fritter, barbecue sauce, Anaheim chiles, pecanwood bacon, cheddar and a side of fries so you can get your starch fix. Their patties are now made of Prime Mishima Wagyu Reserve beef from hormone-free, vegetarian-fed cows, which means an upgraded flavor experience. We’re sure you’ll feel full enough to leave feeling like a real burger connoisseur.

Native Knowledge: Vegetarians can celebrate! JFAT also serves a delicious version of The 100 percent plant-based Impossible Burger. “There are a couple things that make this burger different from any other veggie burger I have tried,” explains Managing Partner David Wilhelm. “The creators of this patty wanted it to look and taste like real beef which it absolutely does. I have served it to several burger enthusiasts who never knew it wasn’t real beef until after they ate it. It is so realistic that, in fact, some strict vegetarians who have tried it at the restaurant can’t eat it because it’s too much like real ground beef!”

Classic Americana

Must Order: Hickory Burger

If you ever find yourself near one of California’s most classic diners, try their Hickory Burger. Your stomach will thank you, but you might need a bigger mouth to consume this burger. Ruby’s piles the burger high with a hearty helping of cheddar cheese, thick-cut bacon and golden onion rings before mingling Ruby’s special sauce with classic barbecue sauce. The burger comes with a side of “refillable” fries, making it a Ruby’s must-try.

The Standing Room Restaurant

Must Order: Cash Burger

The Standing Room’s Cash Burger is as enticing for the eyes as it is for the stomach. Their combination of shishito pepper, bacon, crispy onion and two types of cheese has been known to cause cravings. A decadent drizzle of hoisin barbecue sauce and Korean aioli amplifies the already mouthwatering flavor of the burger. They have happy hours every weekday, so make sure to stop by for a low-priced drink with your burger.
