Dentalogics’ Holistic Dentist Offers Up Smile-Worthy Local Spots Things to Do in Los Angeles
PeakFit is my favorite way to kickstart Mondays. Not only does it kick me in the butt, I’ve noticed improvements in my mood, sleep patterns, and diet. And my trainer Yaw Owusu Jr. is a beast who won’t relax until I see results. Coffee before at Alfred Coffee & Kitchen on Melrose is a must. Things to Do in Los Angeles
Monday nights are low key: I like to cook at home and catch up on Netflix or the latest Ted Talks. Things to Do in Los Angeles
EarthBar in West Hollywood is a daily ritual; I’ll go before my first patient of the day and invigorate with an organic juice; the Gimme Greens is that rare elixir that’s delicious and nutritious. Things to Do in Los Angeles
Yoga after work is a great way to wind down for the night. My favorite class is with my friend, healer and yogi Aimee Bello at Altared Space. Things to Do in Los Angeles
Crossroads on Melrose is one of the best restaurants in LA, period–and a perfect date spot. I’ll go midweek when it’s easier to get a table and more chilled-out. (And better for a Beyonce and Jay-Z sighting.) Plus, their cocktails are delicious. Things to Do in Los Angeles
Part of my job as an Integrative Dentist is exploring all types of therapies and I have a network of practitioners I love and recommend. Alive Chiropractic sessions are a Hump Day staple.
My friend put me on to The Springs Los Angeles., a relatively new addition to Downtown LA and an awesome place to explore plant-based cuisine. For fans of raw food and smooth sounds, their jazz brunch on Saturday is a must.
Being healthy 24/7 is boring. I have at least one cheat day a week. Tonight’s cheat happens on the way home with the Souffle at Bottega Louie. Things to Do in Los Angeles
I love Hollywood Bowl because of the outdoor space, the world-class acts and the fact that the Bowl gives everyone in LA accessibility to seats (benches at the back start at a buck!). This summer, I was excited to check out shows from Sufjan Stevens, Ben Harper, Kraftwerk 3-D and any of the excellent KCWR World Music nights. Things to Do in Los Angeles
Saturday is beach day. I’ll hit Point Dume in Malibu and get a massage on the way home at Tomoko Spa in Beverly Hills, where the rubdowns are an equal mix of Japanese technique and soul. Things to Do in Los Angeles
I’m not a big night owl, but one of my favorite places to go and dance is at a Cuban-style speakeasy on Western called La Descarga. On any given night you’ll find a burlesque show, live bands, and a great atmosphere.
My favorite Sunday starts with a coffee and an outdoor workout. I’m a huge fan of Charles Fleming, an LA Times writer (and the author of “Secret Stairs LA”) who’s basically a local archaeologist. My favorite urban hikes are the Santa Monica Stairs, Abbot Kinney, and Elyria Canyon, which ends at one of LA’s most idyllic spots: the Mount Washington headquarters of the Self-Realization Fellowship, a mansion and meditation sanctuary that’s actually the birthplace of Kriya Yoga in America.
When I’m on the East Side, I’ll hit up the trendy Silver Lake stores. The Plant Provocateur is a cool nursery that sells California-friendly plants and offers Japanese woodcarving workshops. Owner Hank is a former glam rocker-turned-green thumb who transforms plants into art.
Sunday nights are for rest and preparation. I’ll take the I am Whole Bowl at Cafe Gratitude on Larchmont and call it in early.
