Costa Mesa’s DAX Gallery presents “Portals” by Charmaine Olivia, an ongoing exhibit running from April 2 – June 2, 2016. Known for its collection of eclectic pieces ranging from abstract sculpture to surrealist painting to portrait photography, DAX Gallery has become a hub for emerging artists. The DAX Gallery space has served not only as a place for art, but also as a center for local events, lectures, workshops and more. DAX Gallery has showcased work by a spectrum of renown artists, such as sculptor and taxidermist Peter Gronquist, muralist and designer David Flores, hyperrealist sculptor Kazuhiro Tsuji and iconic photographer Mike Miller.

Having shown her paintings in galleries across the country, artist Charmaine Olivia arrives in Orange County with an entirely new body of work. “Portals” depicts vivid pieces of the painter’s personality with intense brush strokes and bold colors. The subjects of Charmaine Olivia’s paintings are incredibly photo-realistic yet whimsical and dreamy—all stunning and thought provoking. Art experts have called her work intense, and for the everyday consumer of art, you could say it grows on you the longer you look at the canvas. Much of her work strikes a galactical feel with female faces and figures strewn throughout or placed front and center. The artist’s work has been featured in Nylon magazine and Inked Girls magazine and her clients include Urban Outfitters, Volcom Stone—even Lady Gaga.

“This next show, ‘Portals, ’ [fosters] the idea that each piece takes you into another land—and I don’t exactly know what these lands are going to be yet. It’s an adventure every single time, ” Charmaine Olivia told DAX Gallery. “It’s a very deep, spiritual practice for me. Everyone has their own process for how they understand reality but knowing it actually has an effect on people just changes the way I connect with it.”

DAX Gallery is located at 2951 Randolph Street, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. The show “Portals” will run from April 2, 2016 – June 2, 2016. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
