La Costa Film Festival is Coming to Carlsbad Oct. 13-16

The countdown is on! On Oct. 13-16, the 4th Annual La Costa Film Festival is set to wow in Carlsbad. Not only does this festival have some funny, thought-provoking, and serious documentaries in store, but also some tasty bites and lip-licking libations at the opening night’s Sip & Savor Gala. La Costa Dreams, Inc aims to enrich lives through the world class cinema and one way of doing just that is by throwing an amazing soiree! Local celebs and those you love on screen will come to life throughout the weekend.

Come ready for your red carpet moment each night and be prepared to endure some can’t-look-away films. After you watch, enjoy, and give a standing “O”, most movies will have Q&A sessions after so you can fangirl over the crew. Here is a little preview of each category:


Feature Films

Three Days in August

Oct. 13, 8:30 p.m. at Omni Resort & Spa

Family is the center of this film as an Irish American artist (Mollie Milligan) attempts to bring all of her family together under one roof for the sake of her painting a family portrait.


Top Gun 3D

Oct. 14, 3 p.m. at Cinépolis

I mean, it’s classic Tom Cruise in 3D. Do I need to say more? Buckle your seatbelts, whisper to the person next to you, “You can be my wingman anytime, ” and get ready to take flight.


Claire in Motion

Oct. 15, 7 p.m. at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa

Imagine, your husband goes on a four day camping trip and never returns. This suspenseful film tells Claire’s story. She’s constantly on the move to put the missing pieces together to find her husband while others find the continued search pointless, she won’t give up.


Gala & Godfrey

Oct. 16, 5 p.m. at Cinépolis

Witness a story of Gala and Godfrey (Molly Pepper and Adam Green) as they eventfully experience love, sex, marriage, divorce, but not necessarily in that order.


Short Films

Made from Scratched

Oct.15, 11:00 a.m. at Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium

Based in San Diego, get a glimpse inside of a local eyewear brand, SpexWax, and how the owner turned his passion into his career.   


Reflex Camera

Oct.14, 1 p.m. | Cinépolis

In this animated short, sometimes when you snap a photo the picture reveals what you want it to—but not necessarily the truth.


Phil’s Camino

Oct. 15, 11 a.m. at Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium
Oct. 15,  2 p.m. at Cinépolis

This short documentary follows Phil, a Seattle-native with Stage 4 cancer, as he relishes the difference between getting “cured” and getting “healed.” See his journey of attempting to walk The Camino de Santiago (about 500 miles) and to ultimately reach healing within.


Café Nagler

Oct. 14, 11 a.m. at Cinépolis

Playing a family detective can be tough. And when the family mystery is a once-famous café in Berlin from the 20th century, things can get complicated.


The Founders

Oct. 15, 4 p.m. at Cinépolis

Thirteen women with one common goal—to change the male-dominated sports world forever, one hole at a time. Meet the first female golfers and witness the obstacles and double standards, and learn how they broke the glass ceiling with golf clubs in this sports documentary.
