I always start the week off right by going to Ecco Pizzeria & Bar at The Camp. The restaurant is right next to Ra Yoga Costa Mesa, and Bobby (Co-owner of Ra Yoga Studios) and I like to have our Monday meetings there. A few of the staff members practice at Ra, so everyone there feels like family and the food is amazing. The garlic fries and mixed green salad with salmon are a must!
When I have a free moment, I love visiting Escape Skincare Salon in Newport Beach. Marisa DeMarco Is a dear friend and my beauty guru. She has created a beautiful oasis, and the interior design is stunning with personal touches and an amazing wood ceiling. After the facial Marisa always gives an angel card reading. I always leave refreshed and rejuvenated.
Fitness, health and wellness are all about balance. Besides doing yoga, I like to go to Stark Gym in Irvine. My brother Todd Vande Hei is CEO and Co-founder of the gym, and the training is really fantastic. You get a health evaluation and your fitness program is structured around what works best for you and your body. It helps me get stronger which in turn helps me with my yoga practice.
I teach classes all morning and afternoon on Thursday, but I have a break between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., and I love going to the Farmers Market at the Costa Mesa Fairgrounds. The fertile eggs, fresh fish, veggies, avocado and sprouted almonds make for the perfect lunch.
Café Gratitude is our neighbor at Ra Yoga Newport Beach, and everything there is so delicious. When I want to treat myself I get their gluten-free cinnamon roll (it’s so sweet) and the ‘I Am Immortal’ tea.
After I finish working with our wonderful students in our Teacher Training program on Saturday, I run over to Vitaly Caffe at The Camp. I have their Piadina e Cucina for lunch. One time I went there and saw the US Men’s Soccer Coach, Jürgen Klinsmann having breakfast. I went up to him and just high fived him! If you want to see him, you have go to the cafe for breakfast.
A relaxing way to end the week is to go to Vedanta. The monastery is open to the community and overlooks the beautiful rolling hills of Trabuco Canyon. There’s a shrine trail that’s absolutely beautiful with an organic garden and beehives throughout the hike. It’s quiet, peaceful and serene.
