As summer approaches, we’re ready for good times and tan lines. What better way to wrap up a little sun and fun than to sip on seasonal cocktails? Mesa, a trendy lounge located in Costa Mesa, is rolling out a cocktail menu to get you in the summer mood. We talked with Julia Arjune, general manager of Mesa, and she gave us the scoop on their upcoming specialty drink selection. “Inspired by the fresh fruits and flavors of summer, our cocktails are a balance of sweet and tart with some leaving a lingering spice,” Arjune said in an interview. Each of the five cocktails is a nod to pop culture such as songs and movies. We’ll let you take a swing at connecting the dots.

Black Velvet

Channel your inner bad girl Allanah Myles and try the fiery Black Velvet. Rosemary-infused Nolet’s Gin lays a piney aroma foundation. House Blackberry Shrub, lemon juice and Amaro CioCiaro present a pleasantly fruity kick to your taste buds, while the mint garnish adds an elevated aftertaste. We believe this is a “new religion that will bring you to your knees” kind of a drink.

Mask Off

Party like Future with Mesa’s new Mask Off. The devil is undeniably in the details of this unconventional cocktail. Patron Roca Silver and Ancho Reyes Liqueur together deliver a mighty punch. Grapefruit juice incorporates a twist of tartness with the help of Rhubarb bitters to bolster the flavors, decorated with a lime wheel and Fresno chili garnish. Elements of bold and zesty are what make this the perfect drink to “toast up with the gang.”

Molly Ringwald

If you’re looking to feel Pretty in Pink, we recommend the Molly Ringwald. Volcan Tequila mixed with a Yellow Chartreuse liqueur give this drink some POW-er. A mixture of sweet watermelon and tangy lime juices complement the boozy fusion. As a finishing touch, this delightful cocktail is topped with fresh basil leaf and soda.

La Bamba

Mesa’s latest Latin-inspired cocktail is guaranteed to make you baila all night. The La Bamba unites a handsomely aged four-year-old Bacardi and housemade cola syrup, with splashes of lime juice that offer a tart-tastic taste in every sip. To take things up a notch, it’s topped with Champagne and a hint of lemon zest. One swig of this drink will have you saying “soy capitan!”

Forbidden Fruit

If your mantra is “sip juice from the forbidden fruit and get loose,” look no further. Action-packed Forbidden Fruit will jet set festive vibes in motion. Grey Goose vodka mixed with Mesa’s housemade strawberry syrup creates a smooth berry sensation. The medley of lemon and cucumber juices add a burst of summer. If drinking “forbidden fruit” is wrong, we don’t want to be right.
