If fashion is your passion, there’s plenty of shopping options in Palm Desert to revamp your closet with new wardrobe items and accessories. With luxury retailers lining the famed El Paseo to name brand designers in airy outdoor malls, there’s a store open for you. If boho chic is more your style, there’s also one-of-a-kind boutiques and weekend flea market fairs. We scoped out five Palm Desert shopping destinations that will surely fit your fashion fix on any budget!

1 | Shop the Mile Palm Desert Shopping

The El Paseo Shopping District was a distant oasis more than 60 years ago until Visionary Developer Cliff Henderson transformed 1,700 acres of desolate land into a Rodeo Drive-esque shopping mecca for desert dwellers who no longer had to trek to Beverly Hills for high-end retail. For one magnificent mile, you’ll find 200 stylish stores featuring the latest trends off the runway, fine diamonds and Rolex watches. Hailed as one of the premier shopping destination in Greater Palm Springs, the avant-garde avenue stretches block after block to indulge in regal retail therapy.

Native Knowledge: Even if some El Paseo stores are a bit out of your price range, part of the fun is walking up and down the street window-shopping to check out the impressive storefront displays. Retailers like Grayse and Louis Vuitton change it up often so there’s always something new to see.

2 | Stay Classy Palm Desert Shopping

A triangle of more than a dozen upscale stores intersecting at El Paseo and Ocotillo Road, The Shops on El Paseo offer classic American style such as Ralph Lauren to fashion-forward Italian designs by Bottega Veneta. At one end you’ll find Candice Held and Leggiadro, while across the street are Oliver Peoples and St. John. On the Escada block is CHICO’s, a classic collection of colorful, lightweight attire to mix and match for a casual afternoon golf lesson or dress up for date night. “I think people like the calm and relaxing vibe of all the specialty stores along El Paseo—it’s like a mini Rodeo Drive,” said Arcelia Sepulveda, a visual merchandise specialist at Chico’s.

3 | Gardening for Clothes

The luscious green landscape of pristine palm trees and classic cacti alone are worth a stroll through The Gardens on El Paseo, but with stores like Johnny Was, Eileen Fisher and Tiffany & Co., your attention of the beautiful open-air ambiance complete with elaborate waterfall fountains can soon turn inward. The 240,000 square-foot enclave of shops is also pedestrian and pet-friendly, serving as social spaces for morning dog walkers and people meeting up for coffee, according to Manager Jennifer Ramos. “It’s always full of people,” she said. “They love the outdoor environment. It’s easy living because so much is within walking distance.”

Native Knowledge: With fall season around the corner, many stores are offering summer sales to restock for the rush of snowbirds and tourists returning to the desert; now’s a good time to find some discount deals from your favorite designer brands!

Anchored by department stores Macy’s, JCPenney and Sears, Westfield Palm Desert is a fantastic one-stop destination for back-to-school needs. Aeropostale, American Eagle Outfitters and Buckle specialize in men’s, women’s, and kids’ apparel, while Aldo and Vans offer affordable footwear for all. For the athlete in your family, Champs Sports and Dick’s Sporting Goods are sure bets to find gear for fall sports. In need of art supplies? Recently opened Flat Black Art Supply has got you covered for acrylic paints and colored pencils. K-Pop Pink Store—teens are keen to what this music shop is all about—is also the latest edition to join the complex. In between excursions from toting little ones around, hit up the family lounge inspired in partnership with the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. The free space provides toys, cartoons, private nursing areas and baby changing stations.
