Whether you’re a die-hard horse racing fan or a novice at the track, Del Mar’s Bing Crosby Season is one of the best spots to catch elite Thoroughbred racing on the west coast along with exciting fall events.

After Los Angeles’ famous Hollywood Park closed, Del Mar Racetrack was able to take on all of Hollywood Park’s racing dates, and the Bing Crosby fall Season is the racing season that now follows the summer meet. The Bing Crosby Season is heading into its third season, and the racing will take place at Del Mar from Friday, November 11 through Sunday, December 4, 2016.

There is nothing quite like a day at the races, with beautifully groomed Thoroughbreds raring to run out of the gate and betting windows filling up with excited fans; however, there are many other extraordinary events throughout the season. On Opening Day everyone is invited to dress to the nines and participate in the “Hollywood Fashion Contest, ” in which true glamour queens, “Old Hollywood” divas and/or gents, can channel their inner celebrity and win amazing prizes.

Other signature events throughout the season include a Concert by Ben Harper after the last race on Saturday, November 12. Also Del Mar’s Fall Beer and Cider Festival will feature over 100 San Diego local craft brews, ciders, and frothy seasonal beers. Get your Roots, Rock, and Reggae on with the Reggae Fest and the College Day Tailgate party Saturday, November 19—featuring Iration performing after the last race, and there are tailgate games, giveaways, and free swag. College students get free admission with valid college ID. Red Bull DJs will be spinning throughout the day as well. Del Mar Mile Family Fun Run is an exhilarating way to get a move on Thanksgiving Day morning, November 24.

There are finish line photos, crafts, face painting, and other fun-filled activities for the entire family—you may even find yourself running next to a jockey! Helen Woodward’s Puppy Race follows the Fun Run and is the cutest race you don’t want to miss. The Fall Food Truck Festival on Saturday, November 26 offers an array of mobile delights from over 40 gourmet food
trucks.

Every Saturday, early risers are invited to watch the morning workouts during Daybreak at Del Mar. Visitors can dine on some delicious breakfast delights in the open-air, trackside Clubhouse Terrace restaurant. Former jockey and event announcer Jeff Bloom will be sharing some behind the scenes secrets that will get you excited about the world of horse racing. There is no better way to experience the thrill and beauty of Thoroughbred racing than at Del Mar, and you can bet on that.

The Beginning of it All: Bing Crosby was there to greet the first ever fan at the gate on Opening Day in 1937!

Angela is a writer who fell in love with live theatre at an early age. She majored in English in college, and it was then that she began corresponding with the late contemporary humorist, Erma Bombeck. After purchasing one of Bombeck’s books, Angela discovered that the binding was askew, and Bombeck convinced her that life did not end after page 190! Angela has written theatre reviews for about a decade, and an editor once told her that her “ebullience comes through her writing and is like watching a child whoop and holler on her first trip to an amusement park.” This is one ride she’s never getting off! Angela lives in Huntington Beach, is happily married to a drummer/percussionist and has recently purchased a great pair of ear plugs! She loves all the “girly” stuff - fashion, jewelry, and makeup, but her undying passion is theatre and travel. When not in a theatre, you will find her anywhere there is surf and sand.
