Hilltop Coffee and Kitchen is one of my favorite businesses to support. It’s cool, the food is bomb and it gives creatives a place to go and zone out. My favorite thing to order is the short rib grilled cheese. But when I want to be fake-healthy, I go with avocado toast. Pro tip: add shrimp!

Melrose Trading Post is one of the best places to shop in Los Angeles. You can’t haggle here like you would at your typical flea market, but you get a very LA vibe that you also won’t get at your typical flea market. I love that it takes place once a week; the food is great, and they have music to entertain the kids while you eat.
Stay at June Blair Paysinger
Hotel June has a dope midcentury modern vibe with great food and a chill pool. It’s a redo of a hotel I remember partying at when I was in college. So for it to be so cool now as an adult makes me giggle and enjoy it even more. Order the uni tacos; they are not something I’d normally order, but they are bomb.
Let’s Go to the Beach, Beach
I love grabbing a bite at Playa Provisions then taking my ice cream to go and walking on the beach. The food and vibe here are great, and I love how hidden it is. The best part about this place is really just its location and proximity to a great residential part of the beach.
Local tip: they have a speakeasy in the back.
Close to the Heart
Feels like a shameless plug, but Post 21 truly is my favorite small business. It started as me and my mom building the place we wanted to shop, and it has turned into much more. Post 21 is truly making it easier to shop Black and is helping to change the narrative around what to expect from Black creatives.
