BoConcept is a Denmark-based lifestyle brand showcasing a stunning range of Scandinavian furniture that accentuates the latest in Nordic style and design. Though the brand is fairly new to Southern California, BoConcept’s rich history of masterfully-designed pieces and unprecedented customization possibilities is what continues to set the brand apart.

In the summer of 1952, Jens Ærthøj and Tage Mølholm founded BoConcept with the goal of creating furniture that exhibited their core design philosophy: “simplicity, craftsmanship, elegant functionality and quality materials.” From what started out as a small factory space built by Ærthøj and Mølholm has now transformed into the lifestyle brand we know today as BoConcept with nearly 300 stores in 60 countries. Stephane and Stephanie Duval, co-owners of the Los Angeles and Orange County BoConcept locations, are utilizing Ærthøj and Mølholm’s same core design philosophy to ensure that the individual’s home design visions continue to become a reality. While discussing the brand’s continued impact in the design world, Stephanie mentioned “customization and functionality” are two key components that she, as well as other skilled BoConcept design consultants, take into consideration when working with a client.

More recently, BoConcept partnered with the coveted American Society of Interior Designers’ Orange County chapter to put on an exciting mingling event that featured a panel of renowned architects including Mark Teale, Chris Light and Richard Fleming. The event took place at BoConcept Orange County’s immaculate showroom, allowing guests to both mingle and explore the contemporary space. The layout of the showroom was clean and sleek, helping individuals to truly appreciate the versatility of BoConcept’s many design options. In the center of the showroom, guests were met with a mouthwatering selection of pasta, fresh salads and tantalizing hors d’oeuvre catered by the French-inspired company, Guinguette. Guinguette, a French term to describe the many open-air cafes found around Europe, is run by Aurelie and Mariette, two friends who have always had a passion for all things culinary. The pair works closely with local farmers, butchers and bakers to ensure they continue to provide customers with top-quality, organic, seasonal and vibrant products found throughout Southern California.

Following the social mingling and serving of dinner, the event full of design professionals migrated to a section of the showroom where the accomplished panel of architects answered questions that focused on trends and the future of residential and commercial design. When the architects were asked what custom home consumers are asking for, architect Chris Light explained that designs these days are all about “sex appeal”—for example, the seamless disguising of everyday items like televisions and household appliances. Renowned architect Richard Fleming added to Light’s point, stating, “In terms of home types, ones that have been professionally-designed have the highest appraisal rates by far.”

Being able to customize a home to accentuate a person’s unique style and taste is something BoConcept continues to help individuals with. Whether you are just looking to spruce up your living room or are in need of a full-home makeover, you must check out BoConcept’s Los Angeles or Orange County showrooms to truly experience their extraordinary selection of Danish-designed furnishing and expert design consultants.
