What’s better than celebrating with family and friends, eating comfort food that you and generations before have enjoyed and sipping on a cool, refreshing drink? The traditional Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos, is a celebration to honor those who have passed on. Traditional dishes are served to celebrate the previous generations that passed down the recipes to the younger relatives.
Make your celebration different this year and go Cuban style, with traditional Cuban dishes. Habana restaurant in Costa Mesa is honoring Día de los Muertos by pairing up the traditional cuban dish, known as Ropa Vieja, along with their amazing cocktails, beers and famous sangria.
Ropa Vieja is a traditional authentic dish in the Cuban culture. Habana puts a tasty, flavorful spin on this dish with long grain white rice cooked with garlic and butter with the “ropa,” or braised shredded beef, which is slow braised and seasoned with garlic, bay leaves and other spices, alongside sofrito black beans, containing bell peppers, garlic and onions, finished with fried maduros, or sweet plantains. The combination of every item in this dish creates a savory mouthful of deliciousness.
Just Like Grandma: The Ropa Vieja dish was designed to make it look like a Sunday pot roast dinner at grandma’s house, in which it’s roasted for hours with peppers and onions until the beef is pull-apart tender along with the rice, black beans, and maduros which makes the dish hearty.
Cuban Nights: Party like you’re in Cuba every Friday and Saturday night at Habana from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. for live entertainment and a full dinner menu served until 1 a.m.!
