1 | Cocina Social Hour at Descanso
Begin your night with a yummy appetizer to fuel your hunger through the evening. Descanso will be offering one of four delectable options: chips, chicharrones y salsa with fresh tortilla chips, pork chicharrones and salsa frita; clasico guacamole with Hass avocado (that you won’t have to pay an extra dollar for), lime, white onions, serrano chiles, cilantro and fresh tortilla chips; aguachile shooters, a Descanso original, served with sushi grade hamachi, seasonal citrus aguachile, red onion, cucumber, avocado (again, no extra charge), cherry tomatoes and fresh tortilla chips; and lastly, mini tres quesos quesadillas, made of tres quesos, salsa verde and cotija cheese.
2 | Salud! Social Hour at Descanso
Wash down your tasty treats with the restaurant’s signature drink, El Descanso Margarita, made with Milagro Tequila, agave, lime and orange. Yum! Fun fact: the Milagro Tequila bottle’s design is inspired from Mexico’s architecture and street art. Similarly, the Descanso creative team wanted to model the interior of their restaurant after the streets of Central Mexico to create an authentic hometown atmosphere. If margs aren’t your thing, you can opt for a classic Modelo for a rich, full-full-flavored refresher.
3 | Taste of Home Social Hour at Descanso
Descanso: A Modern Taqueria, is one of Costa Mesa’s latest establishments. The restaurant celebrates authentic Mexican flavor by pairing traditional Mexican dishes with a modern-day twist. This is an element that can be tasted in the savory dishes, as well as witnessed in the unique ambiance. Inspired from his home in Central Mexico, Chef Sergio Ortega explains the restaurant’s look was inspired from textures, like his native home. Coupled with that authentic atmosphere is the lively music composed from Mexican guitars, light ocarina melodies and the sweet sounds of the baroque harp.

While the Social Hour will only be a hint of what Descanso has to offer, the winner will have the opportunity to partake in the plancha dining experience. Similar to Japanese teppan-style cuisine, Descanso’s plancha preparation is comprised of a personal chef, or taquero, preparing your meal in front of your very eyes.
