Explore California! Here’s 7 Distanced and Secluded Destinations to Visit This Year

Disconnect, Relax and Revel in Nature’s Beauty

One thing we can all agree on is this: we can’t wait to travel. Whether it’s hopping on a plane to fly across the world or embarking a road trip to see family, the day we get to explore other towns, have conversations with strangers and indulge in new experiences will be a glorious one. We don’t know what the future holds or when this will exactly happen, so we have to take it step by step. So with that said, let’s plan an escape somewhere secluded, immersed in nature and not too far from home. California Roadtrips

As always, please follow all health and safety guidelines in place.

1 | Getaway California Roadtrips

“The large, picturesque windows give you those dreamy views of tall trees and an open sky the second you wake up.”

With outposts around the country, Getaway provides an escape to nature just a few hours away from major cities across the US. Stay in a tiny house that includes everything you need: a cozy bed, AC and heat, a mini kitchen and a bathroom. The closest Getaway location in Southern California is in the mountains of Big Bear. The large, picturesque windows give you those dreamy views of tall trees and an open sky the second you wake up.

2 | Healdsburg California Roadtrips

Situated in Sonoma County north of San Francisco, this mellow wine and food destination is calling your name. Relax within the rolling green hills surrounded by wineries and fresh air. Looking for a luxurious place to stay? The Montage Healdsburg opened in December 2020; it features bungalow-style rooms, a 11,500-square-foot spa and three on-site dining options. While wine tastings are plentiful, be sure to take to the great outdoors for hiking, biking or kayaking.

For those looking to really celebrate with a bang in a post-COVID world, Hotel Healdsburg is offering an extravagant Healdsburg Hideaway package. Let the pros do the planning and take part in this $35,000 itinerary. Round-trip transportation on a private jet, private transfers to your hotel, two nights in a suite, a chef’s tasting menu at Dry Creek Kitchen, spa services, wine tasting experiences, private gallery visits and more—you’ll be living like a celeb with this grand offer.

3 | Stinson Beach  California Roadtrips

“Chill out in the outdoor soaking tub surrounded by greenery in total tranquility.”

One of the best parts about AirBnb is that you don’t have to interact with any other humans. You reserve your stay on your phone or computer, (typically) check in by yourself and are free to enjoy your stay in complete peace. This gem in Stinson Beach, on the coast of Marin County, is quite the quaint and magical stay. It’s tucked in the hillside yet just a five-minute walk to the beach. Chill out in the outdoor soaking tub surrounded by greenery in total tranquility. Be right back—making a reservation now.

4 | Topanga California Roadtrips

Another stunning AirBnb, this peaceful Topanga residence in the Santa Monica Mountains has heated floors, outdoor terraces and gorgeous interiors. This spot overlooks the Pacific Ocean—a warm cup of coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening here sounds like an absolute dream.

5 | Joshua Tree

If you’ve been to Joshua Tree before, you know it’s a pretty secluded destination. Houses are spread out with vast desert landscapes in between. The sunrises and sunsets are equally gorgeous, and there’s a lot to explore. Go stargazing at night and hike through Joshua Tree National Park during the day. We recommend staying at The Joshua Tree House for the perfect J Tree escape.

6 | Ojai

The charming town of Ojai, which is about two hours from Los Angeles, is the weekend OOO adventure you need. Whether you’re wanting to golf, hike, wine taste, hit the spa or do absolutely nothing at all, this is the town. Stay at the deluxe Ojai Valley Inn for all of the amenities you can imagine (spa, golf course, tennis courts, pool). Another noteworthy stay is the Ojai Rancho Inn—the rooms give off a rustic, cabin feel. Cozy up!

7 | On the Road

The Camper Cartel, which we talk all about here, is a great way to get out of the house and have a distanced adventure. Take these renovated campers wherever your heart desires! Some destination recommendations, which also have curated playlists for your trip on their site, include Topanga, Joshua Tree, Big Sur and Yosemite.
