Former Food Truck Turned Hot-Spot, Grater Grilled Cheese to Open Third Location

San Diego’s Grater Grilled Cheese Is on the Rise

When people think of their favorite comfort foods, the grilled cheese sandwich often comes to mind. A grilled cheese is something anyone can make and is oh so satisfying, pairing perfectly with other favorites such as salads and soups. We loved it as children and are thankful for it during our college years when those culinary skills are just beginning to take shape. However, this sandwich is not one to let itself be limited to its most basic form. It’s truly versatile and despite its endless potential for customization, a grilled cheese never lets go of its cozy and familiar feeling which makes it so well loved.

Chef Gaston Corbala of Grater Grilled Cheese knows this cozy feeling and knows it well. With the realization that everyone loves a good grilled cheese, Corbala set out to bring San Diegans this childhood favorite, but with a gourmet twist. From the Basic 5 Grilled Cheese, made from Grater’s secret five cheese blend on an artisan sourdough roll, to the Caprese and Nuevo Style Lobster, foodies of all ages will never look at a grilled cheese sandwich the same again. A half cup of soup can be added for $2 extra and if a salad is more to your liking, the Grater Caesar Salad makes the perfect addition along with the half or full cup of Tomato Basil Bisque.

Originally a food truck known as the Greengo, which offered the first gourmet grilled cheese in San Diego, Grater Grilled Cheese now has locations in Mission Valley and La Jolla and the third restaurant in Del Mar is coming soon. On top of the new locations, an extended menu is available, just in case you’re in need of more grilled goodness. Options include the Avocado Grilled Cheese and Avocado Toast (cause who in California doesn’t love avocado?), as well as the Sweet Goat Salad and Meatless Sammy if you’re in the mood for something different. Beer and wine are even available and happy hour just got happier at Grater Grilled Cheese with $5 craft beers all day, every day.

Fallen in love with Grater and need a party catered? Looking for a customized menu? If you answered yes to either of those questions, Grater has you covered. A catering service is available and all you have to do is shoot an email to [email protected] and let the experts do what they do best. It’s easy to see why Grater Grilled Cheese has been voted one of the best grilled cheese in San Diego and rated as one of the “Best 5 Under-the-Radar Restaurants” by Zagat. Stop by and get your grilled cheese fix today!
