ISSUE #78: This Greater Palm Springs Issue features Ross Mathews, Amazing Vintage Style and a Trip to Joshua Tree Michael Wesley May 2, 2018 Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on PinterestShare on RedditShare on LinkedInShare on InstagramShare on YouTubeShare on EmailShare on WhatsAppWritten By: Charlotte Farrell Photographed By: Andrea Domjan GPS May 2018 Issue Set atop the only rooftop pool scene in the Greater Palm Springs area, the surrounding views and mountainscapes at Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs were presented exactly how they should. From high above the hubbub and with a quiet atmosphere that forces you to slow your roll and take a deep breath—maybe the first real one you have taken in a long time. Ross Mathews, the TV personality, podcast pro, author and more, was happy to spend some time in the pre-summer sun as we snapped shot after shot trying to capture a personality that truly cannot be contained in one image. The atmosphere was playful and full of joy, just like Mathews as he laughed and equally made us giggle through the entire process. Photographer Andrea Domjan said “I very much enjoyed working with Ross; he is such a sweet and a very funny guy. He is a natural in front of the camera so it was very easy for me to take portraits of him that reflect his personality. For most of the shots I used one studio light to compensate the bright Palm Springs sun.” Stylist Neil Cohen, who was the mix master on set, used pieces that best showed off Mathews’ sense of style with some added flair, adding that “Working with Ross was as fun as you’d think it would be!” As the shoot wrapped, Mathews didn’t skip a beat. He was off to enjoy some fun in the sun with friends nearby, while the crew parted ways ready to take on the traffic home with a smile on their faces. Anyone who has met Mathews knows he has this effect on people, and I was grateful my commute was filled with a lot more positivity and a bit less yelling at the guy who cut me off.
