Experience the Stellar New Additions to the Historic Spot

Your stress level has hit an all-time high, and the weekend is your shining escape. You have your sights set on the ocean, an endless supply of great food and a room that really gets you in the California state-of-mind. Well, you’re in luck, because that oasis is not far away. In Venice Beach lies Hotel Erwin, and it just had a spectacular remodel that is sure to check off all your mini-vacay must-haves.
With a bright new look and feel, the spot is a balance of seaside beauty and bohemian funk. As the only full-service hotel in Venice Beach, the makeover is the perfect complement to the amenities provided. Profiled by the New York Times as “Young Hollywood’s Decorator of Choice,” designer Sally Breer was the brains behind the revamp. Inspired by Venice’s storied past, the hotel invites guests to walk through a modern nod to times gone by. The playfully retro color palette of blues, greens and yellows are met by a beach appropriate textured indigo carpet. Throw in a vase of peacock feathers, an orb lamp and other eclectic decor accessories, and you have the charmingly offbeat vibe that reflects the community. She also brought together some of the big names in Venice Beach’s ‘70s art scene, such as Larry Bell and Ed Moses, and had them trace their hands to be incorporated into the wallpaper design. For suite guests, a private balcony allows for prime city or ocean views, plus a separate bedroom to give the space an expansive, retreat-like atmosphere.
Tapping into that quintessential Venice Beach ‘70s bohemian sensibility, elements were drawn from the boardwalk. Think funhouse mirrors and a bathroom door selfie graphic featuring the “Wish you were here!” tagline to share and induce some jealousy amongst your followers. Owner Erwin Sokol and his circle of influential artist friends were a major source of inspiration, and he would be proud of the updates and their reflection of the coastal beauty, urban energy and fearless and expressive attitude that is so iconic of Venice Beach.
Guests also get to enjoy amenities that stick to the hotel’s mission to sustain local partnerships. Ride around town on Erwin-customized bikes from Venice-based Sole Bicycles, or look your best thanks to Culver City’s BYRD Hairdo Products available in the guestrooms. In July, each room will feature snacks and yummy treats hand picked by Whole Foods Market in Venice. Plus, the hotel’s Red Bull Dogtown Suite hosts a branded DJ booth, Murphy bed, branded balcony and signature art. Can you get any more SoCal?
If you’re hungry for more, soak in the sweeping ocean views from the hotel’s High Rooftop Lounge (the only hotel rooftop in Venice), or grab a bite at the first floor’s Barlo Kitchen & Cocktails for some local Cali fare. If you are in need of a sweet spot for business meetings, movie screenings or modern cocktail receptions, Larry’s Loft, named after Larry Bell, is ready to serve!
A few steps from the Venice Boardwalk, Muscle Beach, the Venice Canals, Rose Avenue dining and the endless shopping of Abbot Kinney, Hotel Erwin is the perfect choice for surfers, weary business travelers, families and just about anyone who wants to experience the “anything-goes” ambiance that is so unique to the area.
The 4th of July weekend is just around the corner, so head to Hotel Erwin to watch firework shows visible from Malibu all the way down to the South Bay while you dance to DJs all weekend long.
