Fresh Juice Bar is fresh in quality and in style. From brightly colored walls adorned with inspirational artwork to a smiling staff serving the freshest blends, this juice bar is about to be the reason you trade your morning coffee in for a fresh squeeze. Each beverage is made fresh-to-order with organic ingredients that help stimulate the mind, body and soul. Some patrons relax and enjoy their drinks while others whisk in and out, collecting their beverages on the run. Whatever your schedule may look like, you’ll leave feeling invigorated and certainly not thirsty.
Fresh Juice Bar is the creation of local valley entrepreneur Marcie Madain. After years working in advertising sales, she dreamed of finding her own path. As busy mother who is constantly on the go, she crafted green drinks at home as an alternative to the highly processed store-bought juices. “Many people think healthy snacks are pre-packaged processed foods,” says Madain. “These are not real foods at all. They’re full of sugar and things you can’t pronounce.”
Inspiration sparked while vacationing in Newport Beach, with cold-pressed juice on every corner and a plethora of options for clean, healthy eats. Backed by her husband and her own savings, Madain’s idea for Fresh Juice Bar quickly became a reality. The first store opened in Palm Desert in 2013. Three more quickly followed. “It grew out of necessity,” explains Madain. “We wanted to serve our customers wherever they were in their day. Many repeat customers visit a variety of stores throughout the week.” It’s a growth substantiated by the accolades. In 2014, USA Today named Fresh Juice Bar number six on its top 10 juice bars in the country list, ahead of anyone else on the west coast.
Fresh in name and nature, Madain pins her brand’s success down to “sourcing the best available raw ingredients.” Each store makes its own almond milk daily, and is committed to using organic products, such as cacao nibs from Ecuador. Madain stays away from sugars and purees, opting for whole foods and the full fiber-rich nutrition of greens and their skins. There’s even a process to the green drinks. “The greens need to be blended first to break them down almost to the cellular level,” explains Madain. “It allows your body to assimilate all the micronutrients.”
The menu is expansive and diverse, featuring fruit, green and protein smoothies, organic juices and pitaya and acai bowls. Each item is conceived in-house and is unique to the brand. Customer favorites include The Bomb, with its blend of pineapple, apple, spinach, cucumber and a sweet touch of mint. Date shakes are an integral part of Coachella Valley culture, and Fresh has a healthier dairy-free version. Its blend of local dates, almond milk, vanilla beans, banana and cinnamon, packs a tasty punch with no added sugar or fat. Muscle Alert is the most popular of the protein smoothies—with local cold-brewed coffee, organic mocha powder, chocolate protein and almond milk, it works perfectly as a meal replacement or simply a healthy frozen treat.
With four locations between La Quinta and Palm Springs, you don’t have to go far to get your Fresh fix. Madain doesn’t have any imminent new openings but would like to add more in the east valley and beyond. Currently, her focus is on her ninth-grader, Sophie, and herself an aspiring entrepreneur. Sophie wants to go to college, get her degree, then take Fresh to national and international levels. A dynasty in the making? “Stay tuned,” adds Madain.
