Red O deserves a big standing “O” after their spectacular grand opening celebration. The restaurant, located directly across from the Westfield UTC Mall, is an awesome dining addition to the flourishing La Jolla neighborhood. The restaurant opening is timed perfectly with the upcoming completion of the mall’s expansion project, which will add approximately 250,000 square feet of high-end retail and elegant dining venues to the already remodeled and revamped shopping center.
On Wednesday, May 3, Red O La Jolla held its VIP grand opening celebration, which lived up to the hype of the highly anticipated restaurant. Guests walked the red carpet and were greeted with complimentary sparkling rosé and house margaritas upon entry. Throughout the evening, guests also enjoyed an incredible live band and endless passed bites. Designed by JB Campise, creative director and principal of Jon Brent Design, the space offers an expansive and luxurious resort vibe with an authentic feel. The restaurant features high vaulted ceilings and stunning chandelier lighting. Though the majority of the seating is indoors, two covered outside patio areas with fire pits and fireplaces allow for romantic date nights with a few strong drinks.
The ambiance is chic and inviting, and the food makes you feel like you have traveled down to Mexico in luxe fashion. A few of the menu items served during the soirée were the taco bar with three options for meat including crispy style short rib barbacoa, chicken or carnitas, a chips and salsa station and an oyster/shrimp cocktail corner. All throughout the evening, servers came around with massive trays of appetizers — among the crowd favorites were the corn and goat cheese tamale bites, the mini ahi tuna tartare bites and the duck taquitos.
O’Gara Coach La Jolla brought an added touch of luxury to the celebration, providing a Rolls Royce convertible and a Bentley for guests to admire. As a nod to the community, Red O La Jolla also welcomed Voices for Children to the grand opening celebration, donating proceeds from bar sales to the local charity. For those looking for a little extra fun, there was a Casamigos tequila shot booth set up which involved taking a shot of tequila in an ice cube shot glass, then throwing the ice at a bell. Those who made a hit were given fun prizes! Overall, the evening of dining and socializing was fantastic. “O” wow! I cannot wait to go back.
