The Main Pool at this ultra-luxe resort makes for the perfect oasis for your crew. Kids rule at this pool, with plenty of space to splash, and alcoholic beverages are always on-hand to cool down the grownups. Create a private space to stretch out and stash the gear by renting one of the stately cabanas, and set up shop for a fun-filled day in the sun. “Not only is our family-friendly Main Pool a great spot for kids to splash around, but it’s also big enough for adults to have their own separate fun, too, with private cabanas and poolside service,” explains Chris George, Director of Marketing. “Until Aug. 22 (when it moves back to the 21+ only Plunge Pool), the Main Pool will have a special lounge area for adults to imbibe at the Veuve Clicquot ‘Après Swim’ Happy Hour on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 3-6 p.m.”

Gather Movement and Wellness Studio
When kids take classes at Gather, they’re learning so much more than the basic downward dog. Based upon the principles of mindfulness, kindness and compassion, Owner Jennifer Yockey and her three teachers have created a program designed to teach children valuable lessons in the form of engaging stories, breathing techniques and yoga poses to achieve calm and stillness. ”What we aim to do is integrate life lessons, and then take them off the mat and into the real world,” says Yockey. “Parents often stay and get to see the different learning techniques and coping mechanisms [the kids] learn for when they get sad or frustrated, and they can take that home with them.” Parents, of course, can get in on the inner peace, with a full schedule of yoga and meditation classes of their own to choose from.
Native Knowledge: Yockey leads a free online guided meditation at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings for those looking for some extra zen.

6 | Too Many Cooks
At La Quinta’s destination for hands-on cooking classes, parents can learn to whip up summer barbecue fare, taste Thai cuisine or learn the history of Italian sauces, while kids ages 7-12 can become whizzes in the kitchen with fun courses of their own. Through Cooking With Summer’s Kids Camp courses, each mini Julia Child or Jacques Pepin will learn valuable professional skills in sanitation, knife safety and problem solving, as well as enjoy fun team building exercises and delicious treats. “Learning to prepare new food encourages [kids] to try things they might not ordinarily try,” says Andie Hubka, Owner and Executive Chef. “The more they gain confidence with following a recipe, the better prepared they are to attempt things on their own when the class is over!”
