The Good Times International Pop-Up Launch Party Marks Kinfolk’s West Coast Debut

Hold on hipsters, Kinfolk has landed in Los Angeles. One of the most recognized and creative names in street inspired menswear, the badass boys of Brooklyn have chosen the iconic American Rag as the location to showcase the attitude driven line for the first time ever outside their wildly popular New York headquarters.

For the first time ever, and for eight weeks only, the notorious Tokyo born, Brooklyn based Kinfolk brings New York attitude to the laid back city in the sun. American Rag Cie will be the first and only brick and mortar store to feature the upstart brand. To celebrate the inaugural bi-coastal collaboration and a public preview of the Kinfolk AW2016 Collection, a Good Times International Pop-Up Launch Event and after party was hosted on Friday, August 20th in Los Angeles. Why American Rag? Jay Perie, Kinfolk Creative Director, explained that they not only love the legendary store, but that American Rag and its customers are the most in sync with the Kinfolk lifestyle culture.

Named after their celebrated all-night dance parties at 94 Wythe Ave at their hipster haven in Williamsburg, Good Times International is not only the theme of the new fall collection, but the style, attitude, creativity, and especially fun they bring to any event. From 6 to 9 p.m., anxious crowds of 20-somethings dressed appropriately for the occasion descended upon the La Brea Ave retail legend. In addition to browsing the carefully curated collection by Kinfolk and other on-trend designers, the special shopping event featured limited edition collaborative items that will only be available at American Rag.

Inside the shoe subdivision, a DJ rotated the best house and hip-hop, while Hangar 1 Vodka was near the entrance pouring unlimited drinks. And for an even extra special treat, guests who purchased clothing were treated to stitch activation by LA’s own Chain Gang, allowing them to experience Kinfolk and American Rag in a unique and personal way. Despite the absence of the eminent cedar geodesic dome of their home store, Kinfolk gave LA their version of Brooklyn.

The good times did not end that evening at 150 S La Brea Ave, the festivity moved to edgy hangout Little Joy on Sunset Blvd in Echo Park for an all-night bash that mimicked Kinfolk’s infamous all-night dance parties.

So what is the Kinfolk fall winter collection really about? Drawing on the resolute and gritty landscape that characterized New York in the 1970s (and possibly of its depiction in films like American Hustle), AW16 reveals the sartorial fever pitch of city at a simultaneous crossroads and clash of culture. “This collection is the actualization of our efforts to build a real lifestyle brand, ” explains Managing Director Keith Abrams. The collection utilizes a low-key yet crisp color palette, creating a versatile fashion statement. Key pieces from the collection include: the B10 Bomber jacket, the Aspen Fleece; and the Baltimore four-pocket jacket, inspired by a vintage military piece found during the design process. And according to the masters behind Kinfolk, the Monroe Jacket in black or burgundy is the must have for fall.
