Q: How has La Quinta Resort & Club branded itself as an essential Coachella Valley resort?
Thomas Soule: The legendary La Quinta Resort & Club is the longest-running resort in the Palm Springs area. The resort is one of just two in the nation that informed the name of a city. Q: How do you incorporate the storied history of La Quinta Resort & Club?
TS: In the early 1920s, San Francisco businessman Walter H. Morgan was drawn to the region in the early 1920s—a place natives referred to as the Land of Eternal Sun. He envisioned a tranquil retreat that captured the essence of quiet hacienda-style living. He purchased 1, 400 acres from the native Cahuilla Indians, enlisted the renowned architect Gordon Kaufmann and scores of artisan craftsmen to make his dream a reality. Quaint casitas and a cozy dining room sprung up from more than 100, 000 hand-formed adobe bricks and 60, 000 roof tiles. Morgan called this place La Quinta. The brightest Hollywood stars came, seeking the solitude of La Quinta. Greta Garbo wanted to be left alone. Clark Gable came to party with friends. Frank Capra found inspiration here and returned to his Shangri-La of screenwriting again and again, eventually making it his home.
Q: What sets La Quinta Resort & Club apart?
TS: La Quinta Resort & Club is the original desert hideaway at the foot of the Santa Rosa Mountains and has been a refuge for Hollywood luminaries and travelers since 1926. While you could easily spend a week lounging beside one of 41 pools that sit steps from your door, the lush 45-acre resort offers so much more. La Quinta Resort & Club invites you to play the five championship courses, indulge in an afternoon at Spa La Quinta, savor creations of top chefs in one of seven restaurants, shop, play tennis or simply relish the luxury of doing nothing at all.
