Laguna Beach Boutique Owner

Kristin Miracle-Lewis, Garage Collective

Q: How did you come to own a boutique in Laguna Beach?

Kristin Miracle-Lewis: I grew up in Laguna Beach and currently live here in Top of the World.  I started doing pop-ups out of my garage, which led to opening the store.

Q: How would you describe Laguna Beach style?

KML: To me, Laguna Beach design style is neutral, muted colors, wood, lots of white and pops of color with pillows, plants and accessories.

Q: What role does the proximity to the ocean have on your life and on your

boutique?

KML: It’s just a beach lifestyle, more laid-back and outdoorsy.

Q: What’s your number one rule for decorating any space?

KML: Every room has to have a rug, a plant, a texture and one piece that makes it special. Either a cool chair or a unique coffee table.

Q: What’s the best hostess gift you’ve ever received?

KML: I received a coral wine chiller and I use it all the time!

Pete Surprenant, North Menswear

Q: How did you come to own a boutique in Laguna Beach?

Pete Suprenant: I had been in retail and clothing for over 20 years and have always been drawn to classic menswear. Seeing as we live here and have our family here, I figured, what better place to open a store than here?

Q: What role does the proximity to the ocean have on your life and on your

boutique?

PS: The ocean is a huge part of my life and always has been. Without it, I am not sure if I’d be the same person, but in regards to the boutique, the ocean inspires the lifestyle to which the clothes speak.

Q: Who’s your style icon?

PS: Hands down, Paul Newman.

Q: What’s the one thing in your store that you’re obsessed with right now?

PS: The Spring Collection from La Paz is pretty amazing. La Paz draws lots of inspiration from the ocean so it hits all the right notes for me!

Q: How would you describe “The North” man?

PS: The North man appreciates well-made clothing and accessories. He takes pride in how he puts himself together and always tries to put his best foot forward.

Q: What role does the proximity to the ocean have on your life and on your

JW: Everything actually! The Shop. was created to bring back the essence of the beach lifestyle. I try and infuse all aspects of the ocean, the beach and Laguna lifestyle into my buys!

Q: What’s the one thing in your store that you’re obsessed with right now?

JW: Our swim is out of this world right now! Especially our new brands Peony and Citrine swim.

Q: What’s the best way to get the boho-chic look right?

JW: I am all about dresses and tennis shoes currently (which my mom hates). Grab a good SPELL dress add a cute pair of Vans or Kaanas tennies and bye!

Q: How did your collaboration with Amuse Society come about?

JW: Being that I am a local and so is Paul Naude, who owns Amuse, it naturally just happened. I am a fan of the product and what the lifestyle represents, so it’s a good fit.

Q: Do you buy with your customers in mind or do you “give them what they didn’t know they needed?”
