Whether you’re in San Diego, Los Angeles or Newport Beach, donating and volunteering for local causes never goes out of style. Spread the holiday cheer this year by embracing one of these holiday volunteer opportunities in Southern California.

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank Volunteer Thanksgiving in Southern California

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank attracts locals, high school and college students and coworkers who choose to volunteer their time and pay it forward. The food bank helps hungry families and individuals who have trouble making ends meet, providing nutritious foods to those who need it. Tasks at the food bank range from checking expiration dates on packaged goods, fruits and vegetables to sorting donated food items. The food bank is a great way to meet like-minded people who give a few hours of their morning to help others and help their local community. You can also donate items like food, personal care and cleaning products, office supplies and equipment to the food bank.

San Diego Run for the Hungry 5k & 10k

For Thanksgiving each year, San Diego Run for the Hungry holds a 5k and 10k race to benefit The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and the Jewish Family Service of San Diego on Thanksgiving morning. Founded by Michael London in 2002, the race still reigns strong, welcoming individuals in the community, dogs and even “virtual runners” needed to raise funds for hunger relief in San Diego County. The 10k is at 7:00 a.m, and the 5k starts at 8:15 a.m. – both at Horton Plaza Mall in Downtown San Diego. If you aren’t a runner, the race also needs volunteers for Packet Pick-Up on Tuesday before the race and on Race Day!
