Monday

Twice the Style is my go-to shop. You have to go frequently. Like my shop, items fly out of there, so I’ll cruise by on my way to the bank or to pick up lunch. I like to shop local and resale—and who can tell it’s not new? Lots of the items still have the retail tags on them. This shop is great and I love a bargain. Also, they have great sales the last weekend of every month. With working all day, I don’t want to ruin an expensive piece of clothing so this is my go to place for work and play clothes.

Tuesday

[The Potting Shed] is a great shop where I go to get inspired to fix up my yard! I am definitely not a gardener, but I want my yard to look like I am! This place has such an eclectic mix of vintage and new items and I never leave without something to inspire me to get out and plant something. If I’m not in the mood to do it myself I ask Oscar to help me and he always has an interesting suggestion for a plant to put into a unique planter or container. Anything can hold a plant, and I’ve come home with some really great ones. Like a turquoise man with ‘hair’ made from a cork screw succulent or a truck with the bed planted in different drought tolerant plants. But my all time favorite is my new garden planted around the tree in my front yard. We planted a fairy garden for my mom’s 86th birthday this year and all of the neighborhood is commenting on how it makes them smile when walking by.

Wednesday

I have to say [The Duchess On Cambridge] is my ‘pretend house.’ I go here and just love the 1923 home that was recently restored and made into a home decor store. All of the rooms offer suggestions of how rooms can be utilized to their potential and they stock beautiful items as well as offer interior decorating services. I love the kitchen (even though I don’t cook) and the garden furniture is to die for. They have a potting shed that is an absolute fantasy of mine and is on my must-do list in the near future in my own back yard.

Thursday

[The Filling Station] is my favorite place to treat myself to breakfast. They have the best food and atmosphere. The place used to be a gas station, and I guess I’m just nostalgic, but my grandfather had a similar one and this place makes me feel connected somehow. Plus they have great French toast. It’s a nice place to take visitors and I can take my dogs on the porch if I want to.

Friday

I have been a stalker of [Summer Hill Antiques & Design] for over 20 years now, and I’m grateful to its owner, Denise Jochec, for always lending an ear or helpful words of advice when I confessed that I wanted to own my own shop someday. She encouraged me with nothing but kindness and support; she is the sister we all want. I’ll shop here for a special lampshade to make my $8 lamp look like it didn’t cost $8! They offer stock shades as well as custom ones and she always has the perfect finials to top them off. She truly has found her niche and that’s why her shop is so successful and I will continue to be a fan for the next 20 years.

[Dog Beach] is my happy place. My zen, my yoga, my workout, my vacation, my laughter, my lazy, my time to unplug and get out of my own head. Everyone should come here…even if you don’t have a dog! Just watching other dogs is relaxing and enjoyable plus the sun and waves aren’t bad either.

Sunday

I usually try and wake up early to attend a swap meet. There is one on the second Sunday of the month called Driving Miz Daisy located at Saddleback College in Orange County. This is a fairly new swap meet and I like it because it isn’t too large and I like to go in the morning so I can have some time the rest of the day to do other things. This is another place where I grew up getting inspired by items people no longer want or have repurposed in some way and offer for sale. Sometimes I fill up my SUV, while others I’m content with a $5 item. Price and quantity aren’t why I go here. I go to reconnect with people who get what I do and understand the value in items that still have use left in them.
