This Family-Owned Seaside Inn Is Pacific Beach’s Hidden Gem

Let’s Take an Inside Look at This Quaint Oceanfront Hotel!

Ocean Park Inn sits on the Mission Beach-Pacific Beach Boardwalk, alive with college students riding beach cruisers, surfers carrying their boards to the water’s edge and the smell of salt coming in off the shore. Family-owned and operated since 1967, Ocean Park Inn is an essential part of the beach community and a landmark in Pacific Beach. CEO and President Elvin Lai grew up among the sun-drenched vacationers and learned the hotel business from generations before him. Lai shares the top four reasons to book a stay at his family’s hotel. Ocean Park Inn PB

A Refreshed Look Ocean Park Inn PB

The beachfront hotel recently completed a property-wide renovation, from the 71 guest rooms to the ocean view pool deck. The decor pairs midcentury style with vintage beach vibes, accented by pops of sunny yellow. The brand-new guest rooms and refreshed common areas were envisioned by Los Angeles-based interior architectural design firm Clear on Black. “The reopening of San Diego hotels to leisure guests and the completion of the first phase of our reimagination couldn’t have come at a better time,” says Lai. “Our new guest rooms are the perfect place to relax and cure cabin fever for locals, and they’re a great oceanfront getaway for singles and families planning summer road trips.”

With the sparkling Pacific Ocean as the backdrop, guests can also enjoy the sunshine on the brand new pool deck. The pool, heated to 80 degrees, offers a comfortable place to dip or swim laps. The elevated new deck encompasses an abstract midcentury pattern made of recycled rubber and features crisp white sun loungers with teak accents to complete the clean, modern aesthetic. Lai, describing the appeal, explains, “We are in the middle of everything from restaurants to bars to entertainment. But when you want an oasis, the pool is there for you.”

The Luxe Location Ocean Park Inn PB

San Diego’s beautiful beaches and boardwalks are now open for all activities, including surfing, paddleboarding, swimming and sunbathing. Ocean Park Inn sits in front of a popular local surf spot, so guests can try the sport for themselves or just sit back under an umbrella and watch the surfers as they search for the perfect swell. As the day progresses, the west-facing hotel is the perfect place to view one of San Diego’s famed sunsets. Lai offers, “It’s a popular surf spot, so when you’re having your coffee on your balcony [while] watching surfers catching waves, it’s a truly picturesque moment. We also have a prime location to watch the green flash as the sun sets.” The best part of being steps from the ocean? “There are few places where you can fall asleep listening to the crashing waves outside,” Lai continues. “Experiencing that is something that everyone should experience at least once. Our returning guests call it their lullaby.”

Caring Customer Service

Ocean Park Inn has been known for impeccable customer service over the last 30 years; now, the tried-and-true service is matched with a youthful vibrancy inspired by the surrounding PB community. Lai says, “Customer service has always been the center of our core values. Our staff has been with us for over 10 years, on average. We run the hotel as a family business, and we’re on-site every day. We treat everyone as if they are coming into our home as a personal guest of the family. From catering to the amenities to the details, it all goes into the ideology.”
