7 Places to Explore in This LA Hip ‘Hood

Written By: Kevin Bradbury and Charlotte Farrell Larchmont Village

Stepping onto Larchmont Boulevard, you can feel the history of the street. It reminds us that before the ‘50s and the shift towards the suburbs, cities still had that community character. And Larchmont Village is a great example.

Mr. Holmes Bakehouse

Bring your sweet tooth and your camera to Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, which just opened on Larchmont Boulevard. Fill up one of their signature “I Got Baked In Los Angeles” boxes with tasty treats like the Matcha glazed croissants, delicious donuts injected with yummy goodness like chocolate cream, salted caramel, white chocolate and peanut butter. If you really want to have something funky and new, try their “Cruffin,” a croissant and muffin hybrid with various fillings! Check out their instagram page to keep tabs on what flavors are in store!

Larchmont Sanctuary Spa

The focus for the Larchmont Sanctuary Spa is general wellness, but they go above and beyond. Scott, the spa manager, is well informed and welcoming, ready to help clients relax after a long week. There are plenty of options for couples, such as a large private hot tub, an intimate lounge with tea and infused water, and plenty of double massage rooms with expert massage therapists. One of their specialties is the Jade Stone Massage, which uses a mixture of hot and cold stones to really soothe aching muscles.

Lemonade’s food is served cafeteria style and the healthy selections vary from salads to noodle dishes to pasta dishes and more. We chose the BLT Panzanella salad, pineapple chicken, Cavatelli pasta and red pepper roast cauliflower. Go for the regular lemonade, which is always a classic, but they also offer five other flavors like cucumber mint, guava limeade, blueberry mint, blood orange and carrot ginger. How sweet it is!

Bricks and Scones

The main entrance gives an old fashioned feeling of stepping back a century, and the chandelier hanging next to the spiral staircase might make you feel as if you’re headed to a ballroom dance. They have a good selection of coffees and smoothies to satiate marathon writing sessions. Try the “Norma,” which is their latte blend. And of course, you can’t come to Bricks and Scones without trying their selection of scones, which include lavender, white chocolate, green tea matcha white chocolate, buttermilk cream cheese, fig and rosemary and mixed berry.

Malin + Goetz

This skincare apothecary focuses on people with sensitive skin. Carrying very natural and non-abrasive products without parabens or harsh fragrances, their products clean naturally. Malin struggled with skin conditions and had wanted to create something natural that was non-abrasive but could also work with Goetz’s normal, oily skin. They worked together to formulate a skin product that would work for both. The staff are well informed and will answer all of your skin care needs.

Village Pizzeria

The walls are lined with memorabilia from last century; sports figures, other pizza places, and news headlines. Neon signs line the ceiling and harken back to a different era of pizza shops. Mix and match your ingredients as you like. We tried a mix of meatballs, olives, and one with cilantro, sausage, green peppers and garlic.

Salt and Straw

Salt and Straw shows us that odd ice cream combinations work well. With flavors like August Uncommon Tea’s Silencio black tea and coconut stracciatella and avocado strawberry sherbet, those interested in something different can find their fix. They have some more classic flavors, which of course have a distinct twist; Double Fold Vanilla, gooey chocolate brownie, or roasted strawberry and toasted white chocolate.
