1 | Highlight of your Day

Motion Fitness

Located just a few miles from John Wayne Airport, Motion Fitness opened its doors in 2017. Today, this gym is booming and has become the place to be if you want a high energy, high intensity and resistance workout. Extra bonus: great music that is selected by the trainers. Workouts are carefully designed by highly trained experts who use a huge selection of equipment, including rowing machines, balls, weights and benches.

Native Knowledge: “At Motion we believe your workout should be one of the highlights of your day” CEO and Co-founder Scott Perry states “That’s why our trainers are not just high-level coaches, they’re here to entertain you, keep your mind off the present pain, and ultimately have you leaving with a big smile on your face.”

2 | A Great Workout, Barre None

Pure Barre

Owner Monica Grubin opened up her first Pure Barre 13 years ago. Today, she owns four studios. With a degree in integrative physiology, Grubin realized that people needed workouts like barre. “I worked in total joint replacements before opening Pure Barre, and we were overworking our joints and bodies.” Pure Barre also helps you turn off the stresses of the world: “You get that mental break you need to be a better partner, mother, friend, caregiver…whatever it is you are once you leave the studio.”

Native Knowledge: “Even if you don’t want to take class,” Grubin states, “come and shop. We have great brands like Beyond Yoga, Onzie and Free People. No need to go to the mall. You can shop small and stay on 17th street!”

Although many know Tamra and Eddie Judge as the power couple on Real Housewives of Orange County, others may not know that they are also the owners of one of OC’s best workout studios. In 2013, the Judges opened up Cut Fitness and have steadily built a loyal clientele who engage in group, personal and Spartan training. What makes their studio unique? “Many clients build their foundation with personal training and transition to our small group classes,” Eddie Judge says. “Some even build so much confidence, they decide to take on a Spartan Race.”

Native Knowledge: “As owners, we engage in every aspect of our business, including but not limited to racing road bikes, Tamra pursuing and winning a bikini competition and helping clients around the world via online personal training,” says Judge.

Created under the guidance of physical therapists, The Bar Method uses your own body weight for resistance along with a few basic props: free weights, mats and a ball. Owner Danielle Duley opened the studio to get people working out while having fun. ”I wanted the space to be much more than a workout studio,” Duley explains. “Clients can come for the killer workout and then stay to socialize with their friends and pop into our Beauty Bar to get ready for the day or night.”

Native Knowledge: You don’t have to be a dancer. “If dancing was necessary,” Duley jokes, “I would have ruled myself out, as unfortunately, my dancing skills are few and far between!”

5 | Jumping for Joy

Bounce Society Fitness

If you are in a workout rut and want to try something different, hop on over to Bounce Society. With the use of trampolines and energetic trainers, Bounce Society has its clientele working out their buns, abs and arms while bouncing to music. In February 2016, owners and CEOs Chelsea Rush and Talia Boggan wanted to bring a fun low-impact workout that was easier on the joints. “The good thing is, you don’t have to be an expert at bouncing,” Rush adds.

Native Knowledge: Can’t make it to the gym? No problem. Bounce Society offers online streaming where you can work out at home. The first seven days are free.

6 | The Heart of the Matter

Ra Yoga

With locations throughout Orange County, Ra Yoga is the place to be when it comes to yoga. With some of the best yoga instructors around, Ra Yoga teaches many forms—from restorative to yoga with weights. Under the direction of owners Bobby Kittleman and Jenny Vande Hei-Secor, Ra Yoga is a center that promotes kindness and self-love. “We are much more than a yoga studio,” Daniella Manning, Ra Yoga’s creative director said. “We are a family that works together to make space for the human condition while practicing a lot of love.”

Native Knowledge: Kittleman loves the Houston Astros. “We have baseball hats for wearing at any time behind the front desk, and you can find [Jose] Altuve’s picture taped to the Costa Mesa office door during game days.”
