Jeffrey Chon, The Alley and The Wayfarer

After graduating UCI and being an employee both in real estate and for a major chain restaurant group, Jeff took ownership of his first restaurant and bar, The Alley, in 2006. From there he opened Tabu Shabu, a popular eatery on the east side of Costa Mesa. Shortly thereafter, he began to makeover the old Detroit Bar and transform it into the Wayfarer of Westside Costa Mesa. Along with a few more projects, Jeff is currently opening and managing his new eatery in Eastside Costa Mesa, Oak & Coal.


Ronald Schwartz, Muldoon’s Irish Pub

Ron Schwartz is the owner of the iconic watering hole, Muldoon’s Irish Pub in Newport Beach across from Fashion Island. Housed in a landmark brick building, Muldoon’s is in it’s 43rd year of pouring perfect pints, offering free live music and serving award-winning Irish/California cuisine. Ron has had a dual career as a prominent Trial Attorney as well as “Publican.”

Fletcher “Ted” Jones Jr., Billy’s At The Beach

Fletcher “Ted” Jones Jr. is recognized internationally for his flagship Mercedes-Benz dealership, Fletcher Jones Motorcars, Newport Beach. It has been the number one Mercedes-Benz dealership in the country for an impressive 18 consecutive years; one of 19 dealerships in four states managed by Ted and his family. Ted has several dealerships in Hawaii and has transported the Aloha spirit to Newport Beach with his popular bayside restaurant. The Mai Tai’s are a local favorite.

Juliette Chung, Juliette Kitchen and Bar

Juliette Kitchen & Bar in Newport Beach, has created a neighborhood restaurant that is rooted in bringing together seasonal and local ingredients in vibrant, modern and balanced dishes. Always warm and inviting, Juliette can be found at the restaurant daily to welcome the community to indulge in good conversation and great food.

Brent Ranek and Mario Marovic, Malarky’s Irish Pub

Brent Ranek and Mario Marovic have owned Malarky’s Irish Pub since March 2010. Brent Ranek, former Newport Beach Lifeguard Captain, has been bartending at Malarky’s for 40 years. Since that time, Marovic and Ranek saw it important to renovate Malarky’s to original grandeur.

Michael Madlock, Newport Beach Brewing Co

Michael was born and raised in Manhattan Beach, California and moved to Newport Beach in 1995 to open the first and only Brewery in Newport Beach, the Newport Beach Brewing Co., the same year. He has been in the restaurant business since he was 15, and has a wife, Vanessa, who is an attorney, a daughter, Molly and a son, Michael Jr., who is 9 years old.   

Matt Baumayr, Sol Cocina

Matt fell in love with this industry working for RA Sushi Bar in Scottsdale, AZ while going to school for Business at Arizona State. It was at RA that he was fortunate enough to meet his mentor and now current business partner, Rich Howland. Being able to take what he learned from that experience and combining it with his passion for the Baja Coast has been very gratifying.

Scott Lewis, Blue Beet

Scott started working at Blue Beet in the ‘90s as a host when he was 18. His dad purchased the bar and opened it in ‘98. Scott began bartending at 21 years old, and became the General Manager in mid 2000s after leaving the business to pursue a financial career. He bought out his dad’s partner in 2014 and is the current owner today.

Todd Carson, Rudy’s Pub and Grill

Newport-native real estate developer, Todd Carson, took a local favorite and gave it a makeover in 2004. Rudy’s Pub and Grill has since then become the hub for happy hour, sports and a wide variety of company to surround yourself with. From the lively environment and involvement in the community, Rudy’s has made quite a name for themselves in the industry.

Greg Pappas, Ralph Nudo, Christopher Pappas and Mark Serventi, Woody’s Wharf

The property of Woody’s Wharf was previously owned and run by Woody Payne since the ‘60s, used as place for fishermen to come together. Since then longtime childhood friends, Greg Pappas, Ralph Nudo, Christopher Pappas and Mark Serventi, have taken the property under their care and ownership. They’ve then made it a place for locals and celebrities alike to enjoy drinks, live music and each other’s company.

Greg and Ron Newman, Baja Sharkeez

Father-son duo Ron and Greg Newman are the brains behind the Newport hit, Baja Sharkeez. The Mexican-style restaurant and bar concept came to life after the Newmans took to Arizona, Texas and Mexico for research for a next-level chain. They currently have restaurants in Newport, Huntington, Manhattan and Hermosa beach.


Dan Lynch, Mutt Lynch’s

Mutt Lynch’s is named after owner Dan Lynch’s father, Emmett Lynch. Known for its top notch breakfast foods and equally quality fully stocked bar, Mutt Lynch’s has become a favorite amongst Newport locals and surfers. Even tourists congregate at this 30 year old favorite.
