As a SoCal Native I’ve been blessed with easy access to the beach, mountains, and desert my whole life; the options to escape are endless. Recent snowfall has left the mountains topped in pristine white powder, and the beaches are free of tourists making surfing and lounging painless. While both the mountains and the beaches are fun options for a day away, the need to really escape can only be satisfied with an extended staycation.

My friend and I decided that it was time to head to the desert, relax, and defrost from the current rain spell Southern California’s having. So, we took a perfect three day staycation at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa.

The Resort is a short drive from Los Angeles, and as soon as I was away from the city I felt at ease; especially once I was surrounded by lush green golf courses, blue skies, and hiking trails galore. As soon as I arrived I could tell my weekend was going to be one I reminisced about for a long time. With a massive list of activities and services to choose from (including seven pools, the luxurious Agua Serena Spa, and DesertPipe water ride), the possibilities were endless.

We checked into the hotel and marveled at our room for the weekend. We had a balcony that overlooked the golf course, a huge bed and a separate shower and bath, which to me was a huge bonus.

We had dinner and cocktails that night at Lantana, and enjoyed every bite. The grilled filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium, the brussel sprouts were roasted gorgeously, and completed with a delightful fig-balsamic drizzle. But my favorite part of the meal had to of been the roasted garlic mashed potatoes; they were wonderfully creamy, a hard feat to accomplish in my eyes.

For our full day at the resort, my friend and I both booked massages at Agua Serena Spa, the Resort’s marvelous spa. Agua Serena Spa offers massages, facials, and body treatments, as well hair, nail, and makeup services.

I had the hot stone massage, which was bliss at its finest. My masseuse, Carlos, did a wonderful job making sure I was comfortable and relaxed. I left feeling like I had slept for a thousand years. He used eucalyptus, rain sticks, and oils that made my skin soft and smooth. It was the perfect way to destress from a week at work. He recommended some home remedies for stress and tension that I had built up and left me to finish relaxing in the spa.

Agua Serena Spa has both a co-ed area to relax with friends of the opposite sex, as well as private men and women’s facilities, which house steam rooms, outdoor showers, and relaxation rooms. My friend and I relaxed in a hot tub after our massages to enjoy the peace.

If spa time isn’t your thing, try heading to the tennis court or hitting the golf course. The Resort offers tennis lessons for groups or private players of all levels. It’s a great way to get you moving and active. If you’ve never played tennis before, it’s also great way to learn. The instructors are friendly and helpful, making sure to give the best criticism and praise possible. My friend and I took tennis lessons, and I’m glad we did. I went in with no knowledge of how to play tennis at all, and left with that wonderful post workout feeling and an actual understanding on how to be better at the game.

We spent the rest of our trip lounging by the pool, really trying to practice and accept vacation life. We had a cabana at the Oasis pool for guests 18 and older. I drank a Raspberry Mint Lemonade and read as I soaked up the much missed sunshine. Music played in the background and a few people swam around in the pool, but the overall vibe was relaxation in the sun.

Previous to this trip, I had never really thought of Indian Wells or Palm Springs as a vacation or getaway spot. But I’m a changed woman now. It was the perfect weekend getaway. I didn’t have to commit a ton of money to travel to a tropical island resort; we got that feeling only a few hours away from home.
