Hopscotch Tavern

Wait, are you telling me that Hopscotch has amazing food if you’re there early enough? Yes, Hopscotch Tavern is more than just a popular whiskey bar in the heart of Fullerton’s downtown district, they’ve got an extensive menu of shareables, burgers and entrees that would satisfy any picky party. Their Haystack Burger has melted cheddar cheese, a fried egg, Applewood smoked bacon, a crispy potato nest, caramelized onions lettuce, tomato, housemade pickles and garlic aioli mayo that makes for an undeniable pleasure. “Our comfortable cabin feel is what our patrons love and as long as the smiles are flowing then we know we are doing something right,” said owner Morry Robatian.

Native Knowledge: Their social hour from 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, and all day Sunday is a great way to wind down for lower prices.

Zombee Donuts

You don’t have to wait until Halloween to visit because this place is spooky year round. Born out of influence from popular post apocalyptic TV shows and world renowned donut shop Voodoo Donuts, Zombee Donuts in Fullerton is the most uniquely themed donut shop in the area. With creatively named treats like Cereal Killers or Rabies Babies, you’ll be both intrigued and foaming at the mouth for these donuts. Here you’ll find vegan donuts—which a customer, Tina, tells me is “absolutely worth a try even if you aren’t vegan. You won’t really know the difference.”

Native Knowledge: There’s a good chance they sell out of a majority of their donuts on busy mornings.

Pie Dog is an excellent gastropub with a variety of food and craft beer options, boasting good vibes all around. Customer, Alyssa tells me that “the bartenders are super sincere and awesome to talk to.” The menu is simple: burgers, hot dogs, wings but with delicious twists for you to get behind. Holdaak

This “Far East Chicken Shop” has some of the absolute best Korean-style fried chicken you’ve ever had. Juicy, flavorsome and the sandwich is quite possibly too big for you to finish in one sitting. The menu is almost as simple as In ‘N Out—chicken sandwich (original or spicy), wings and tenders. With that simplicity, they can put their sole focus on perfecting what they have on the menu, and they don’t disappoint. Richard, a regular, holds it in high regard saying “their chicken is in my top five.” Also, their side of “Shake Fries” is a simple fries-in-a-bag concept that allows you to season your fries in spices as generously as you please.

With brick walls and warm lighting, the room feels instantly welcoming, and if you’re lucky there will be a live band jamming in the corner. They pair classic European bar food such as pretzels, fish and chips and sliders with unique handcrafted cocktails, whiskey and craft beers, making this one of the more unparalleled restaurants in the area.
