BeShock Ramen Just Dropped a Sake Bomb On You, Baby

Written By: Jasmín Nelson BeShock Ramen

There’s a new restaurant in town—BeShock Ramen & Sake Bar has hit Market Street in San Diego with a sake bomb bang! This family owned business with co-founding cousins, Ayaka Ito and Masaki Yamauchi aim to create a space where you’re not just visiting for a quick bite, but a place that you can dine in, sit and stay awhile to experience a little slice of Japan.

The BeShock interior, reflects a modern, industrial feel, paying tribute to true Asian heritage as it offers authentic, fresh and homemade-style Japanese ramen customized with a special broth. The non-Americanized ramen has a nostalgic taste as it’s lighter, has a healthier concept of mixed local ingredients like veggies, seaweed and chicken minus any high sodium and MSG. The Japanese traditional seasoning “Koji” is used to give the power of bringing out a broth’s natural flavors.

In order to come up with the best broth for your buck, much research was involved. Ito and Yamauchi traveled around Japan to New York for two years visiting over 100 ramen houses. Ayaka is also one of the only Sake Masters in town to have received her certification in Japan.

The menu features an array of dishes, paired well with a variety of traditional sake offered from Aroma, sake flights to sake sangria. On Wednesdays, they offer Sake Master Hour where you’re able to get educated on Sake 101 to experience what works best for your taste buds. Just a take a seat and let the masters proudly assist in selections of the cultured tastes of 30 unique, Japanese craft and micro brews.

If Wednesday doesn’t work for you, stay in the know via the BeShock Instagram or Facebook, where monthly special sake tasting events are held on select days.

Bring your appetite, a few banknotes and be shocked!
