As one of the newest installations of the Marriott’s Autograph Collection—their “boutique” line of smaller, independent hotels—the relaunched Hotel Republic in San Diego is “prestigious, but not pretentious” and hits the mark in design, food and feel that is perfectly fit for San Diego.

Sleek Design

Sleek and modern interiors give a high-end appeal without losing any of the casual sun and surf culture of San Diego. The designers of the hotel are locally-based Bluemotif Architecture and Los Angeles based interior design firm Forchielli Glynn. The design and decor of the hotel is meticulous, with every aspect being on point and staying within the range of the designer’s intention. This 258-room hotel features amenities using every square foot to its highest potential. These include a full gym, to-go marketplace, third-floor patio bar as well as the added dining options. The outdoor-terrace bar is multi-purposed for yoga in the morning and a projector for movies at night.

Local Flavor

With most of their food products sourced from locally-owned and operated companies, you know your meal will always be fresh! Partnering with The Patio Group, the hotel offers three distinct dining experiences. Choose from The Topside Terrace Kitchen & Bar, with one of the few elevated bars in San Diego, Trade or The Patio Marketplace. Overseeing the menus of all three is Corporate Chef Amol Thanky.

An accountant-turned-executive-chef, Thanky’s resume includes stints at the five-star St. Regis Hotel and Restaurant Gary Danko in San Francisco. His move from the Bay Area to Southern California allowed him to get creative in a new way. “Food culture is growing a lot, but I wanted to make sure I kept the Baja flavors that encapsulate San Diego with some added Eastern influence,” said Thanky.

Boutique Feel

The location is ideal for those who come from near or far, for dinner or for the weekend.

“Many people come looking for a staycation,” said Christina Gold, Director of Catering and Conference Services at the hotel. “So, we actually receive a lot of guests from right here in San Diego County as well as Los Angeles during the holidays.” Hotel Republic begins and ends with the customer experience in mind, having high hopes and expectations for those who stay. Although a new member of the Autograph Collection, Hotel Republic is looking to be one of their standouts.
