Traveling down Racquet Club Drive is a nostalgic treat like no other; a portal to mid-century vacationville where the sun is always shining and picture-perfect California palms frame the ultra-mod, single-story dwellings on either side.

One of these homes in particular stands out as being the most enchanting. With whimsical desert foliage and a vibrant tangerine-colored door, there will be no question when you reach your destination—pure oasis perfection.

For those who do not call Palm Springs “home, ” and perhaps for many who do, simply being in this vibrant SoCal city will ease you into the holiday mindset. But, even with vacation mode fully activated, the glamorous tropical splendor beyond the tangerine door is sure to surprise; chic, polished decor in bright cheery hues, simply oozing with mid-century tiki flare. A more appropriate place to soak in Palm Springs’ Modernism Week simply does not exist. There are playful inviting spaces in every direction, perfect for relaxing, socializing or all-out entertaining.

This spectacular home was originally designed by famed architect William Krisel in 1959 and boasts over 4, 000 square feet of living space, making this the largest home in the sought-after Racquet Club Estates enclave. With a gallery-worthy collection of art and modern updates galore, the estate includes every high-tech amenity a guest could possibly need or want. And if that wasn’t enough to completely excite, this luxurious gem is also solar-powered and extremely eco-friendly.

Just as stunning as this majestic home is our woman of the hour, The Original, Ashley Marsh (@TheOriginalAshe on Instagram and Twitter). She enters the room with a pineapple in one hand, a booze-filled coconut in the other and a mischievous smile-. Her bubbly demeanor sets the tone for a warm welcome and lots of laid-back laughter about her many adventures in the wild world of spirits. Marsh is the National Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum Brand Ambassador serving the entire Western U.S., a coveted role reserved only for those who have a keen knack for crafting creative cocktails and curating an unparalleled fondness for the Sailor Jerry Brand, among many other necessary talents. Her poise, classic beauty and fun-loving demeanor blended seamlessly with our surroundings in the most natural of ways.

“Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and Tiki Culture go hand in hand. And, let’s face it, you can’t have a tropical cocktail without great rum!”

Ashley went on to artfully articulate the history of the Sailor Jerry brand, which pays homage to the famed tattoo artist Norman Collins. Collins’ tattoo artwork generated an enormous following after the 1930s establishment of his tattoo parlor in Honolulu. Being a former sailor himself, Collins’ work was especially popular throughout the sailing communities. Sailors would flock to his shop any time their ships docked in Hawaii. Later came a line of Sailor Jerry clothing and accessories dedicated to Collins’ art, and finally, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum. The cult following is not what made the rum so popular, however. Year after year, the rum has proven itself in the industry by being a heavily-awarded spirit, winning an arsenal of prestigious accolades, such as the 2015 Rum Master’s Gold medal (which it also won in 2013 and 2014).

“I’m not here to sell, my role is to educate, amplify, and enhance the brand. Today we’re celebrating with classic mid-century cocktails, ” said Ashley.

Of course we are. She proceeded to present three crowd-pleasing libations which were hand-picked as being the three best from some of the top Tiki Bars in Palm Springs. The heavenly cocktails were also being served that evening for the much-anticipated Shag Party taking place at the house, which is precisely why they had chosen this vacation rental. It’s a righteous setting for a celebration to honor Shag (aka Josh Agle, a modernist artist whose work has a very fitting mid-century feel).
