If you’re in the market for a fabulous home in the Coachella Valley and need a REALTOR®, look no further than Bennion Deville Homes, an impressive boutique real estate brokerage. The 4,500-square-foot space opened on Sept. 1, with plans to open a second level in the next few months.

With the opening of the second floor, the new Bennion Deville Homes office space will encompass a total of 8,500 to 9,000 square feet, General Manager Chris Anderson points out. A balcony that runs the length of the entire upper floor will provide great viewing for possible future events like parades. “We’re seeing a lot of companies in this pandemic getting away from brick-and-mortar spaces,” he says. “We’ve realized that when a market creates challenges, we step up and provide support to our agents more than ever.” Bennion Deville Homes does this at a time when other organizations may be pulling back and offering less support. 

“We’ve always been considered an essential business,” Anderson says. “Clients and agents must wear masks and follow strict safety protocols, so we can stay open to the public.” Bennion Deville Homes is a unique presence, situated among retail stores and restaurants. “Having a flagship office in Palm Springs reinforces our presence in the community, coupled with a beautifully designed space,” says Anderson. “This really creates an energized work environment for our highly motivated REALTORS®, who we’re proud to have associated with us.” 

When Anderson became involved in desert real estate in 2003, it was known as a “hyper” market of high demand for second homes and low supply. Buyers were coming from Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County as well as snowbirds from Canada. “In 2007, the bubble burst, and it became what I call a ‘hypo’ market,” says Anderson. The market began to change to a healthier climate beginning in 2012 and continues today, in spite of the pandemic. 

“After several months of uncertainty, I’m trying to look at this as today’s new world,” Anderson explains. “A lot of the demand is being driven by urban flight from major cities to places with lower density and less congestion.” More people are working remotely, and housing affordability is still high, resulting in a huge demand for homes in outlying areas. The weather in the desert is also great most of the year. Employers are realizing that people can work from anywhere, and Anderson believes that this may alter a lot of major population centers moving forward.

The founders of Bennion Deville Homes are no strangers to challenging times. “The two Bobs  founded the company right before the tragedy of 9/11,” says Anderson. They brought their brand from the Pacific Northwest to the desert and opened their first office on N Palm Canyon Dr. “[The year] 2001 was a time with a lot of unknowns in many industries,” Anderson points out. “I really admire Bob Bennion and Bob Deville for forging ahead to create this amazing organization coming up on 20 years.” 

One of the goals of the new office was to have all Bennion Deville Homes REALTORS® in Palm Springs under one roof. “This has been a real journey,” Anderson notes. “Before the Desert Fashion Plaza was razed in 2013 to build this beautiful new building, we had a much smaller space in virtually this same location. In opening this new office over the past few months, it really does feel like a homecoming.”
