They Are the Masters of Their Trade

Written By: Traci Carter Holsey Palm Springs Medical Beauty

Having a cosmetic procedure is a very personal decision that requires a lot of research and planning. Most likely, you will want a personal reference from people with first-hand, positive experiences. The Greater Palm Springs area is home to some of the most well-trained and patient-friendly medical/spa practices in Southern California. These doctors are sought out as leaders in their fields, combining their scientific and medical expertise. Thanks to your votes, we have narrowed down the selection and have identified the cream of the crop. Here are your top five medical beauty professionals in Greater Palm Springs.

Dr. Maria Lombardo, DO, FACOS, Lombardo Cosmetic Surgery

Q:
What’s the most common misconception about cosmetic surgery? How have you been able to address it?

Maria Lombardo: The biggest misconception is that cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery are the same thing. The training required to become a cosmetic surgeon is different and the specialties are different. I have been on the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery for two years and on the Board of Trustees of the California Academy of Cosmetic Surgery for three years. I became President of the California Academy in November.

Q:
What is the best thing about working with clients in the Greater Palm Springs area?

ML: I love the diversity of patients in the Coachella Valley! I often get asked, ‘Who is your typical patient?’ and the answer is ‘everyone!’ We have women in their 20s doing breast augmentations, men and women of all ages doing botox and fillers and skincare, 50 and 60-year-old patients are interested in facial surgery and mommy makeovers are very popular with women in their forties and fifties.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a beauty/medical professional?

ML: I get to make people feel good about themselves. What could be better than that?

Q:
What keeps you inspired and motivated in working with your clients?

ML: Watching people blossom after they address an issue that has made them feel uncomfortable. It’s truly amazing to see the transformation of a patient who becomes more comfortable in their own skin after a procedure. They feel more like themselves and very often experience life more fully because of it!

Dr. Mo Zakhireh, Plastic Surgeon at the Cosmetic Surgery Institute of Palm Desert

Q: What’s the most common misconception about cosmetic procedures? How have you been able to address it?

Dr. Mo Zakhireh: In our office, the most common misconception is that people mistake cosmetic surgery for a minor procedure and do not take their recovery seriously. They tend to think they’ll bounce back overnight. The majority of patients tend to undervalue proper nutrition and overdo their activities of daily living. To address these issues, we undertake extensive pre-operative and post-operative counseling in nutrition and physical therapy for our patients in order to ensure their best outcome.

Q: What is the best thing about working with clients in the Greater Palm Springs area?

MZ: In our practice, what we notice is our patients come from all over the world in order to enjoy the beautiful climate and weather in the great Palm Springs area. These patients are very informed and they have very high standards. The Greater Palm Springs area allows comprehensive post-operative care for our patients. These techniques are very specific and include endermologie, ultrasound massage, hyperbaric chamber, cryotherapy chamber, oxygen therapy and lymphatic massage, just to name a few. This is the advantage Greater Palm Springs provides due to the age range of the visiting population.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a beauty/medical professional?

MZ: I feel that our practice is placed at the crossroads of people’s lives. We are privileged to meet people and bond with them in such a short period of time and in doing so, we enhance not only their outer beauty but also their inner beauty. As a result, we feel fortunate to be giving back to our patients and our community day in and day out.

Q: What keeps you inspired and motivated when working with your clients?

MZ: In any given day, we have people from all walks of life walking into our office and soliciting our services. I feel blessed and inspired to be surrounded by such an excellent professional staff and they keep me motivated each and every day. Also, each one of our patients has personal stories. As they get to know us, they open up and share their personal failures and triumphs, their strengths and weaknesses. It’s this raw honesty which keeps me and my staff inspired everyday.

Dr. Wendy E. Roberts, MD

Q: What’s the most common misconception about cosmetic procedures? How have you been able to address it?

Dr. Wendy E. Roberts, MD: The most common misconception is that you will look scary and unnatural. I sit down and explain to every patient that they are surrounded by great work aka cosmetic procedures/surgery, but they usually refer to it as someone being pretty or handsome. My job is to make them look their most natural and beautiful.

Q: What is the best thing about working with clients in the Greater Palm Springs area?

WR: It is a very diverse, savvy and intelligent population.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a beauty/medical professional?

WR: The fact that I have trained in three specialties; surgery, dermatology and dermatopathology gives me the ability to really appreciate beauty from the inside out. Literally, I see beauty on a microscopic level and am able to bring that out in my patients.

Q: What keeps you inspired and motivated in working with your clients?

WR: I have been blessed with one professional gift but all day long I receive gifts from my patients, they all have such rich lives and experiences. I show up 100 percent for them, their health and their families. I am their youth booster!

Suzanne M. Quardt, M.D., Dr. Q Plastic Surgery

Q: What’s the most common misconception about cosmetic procedures? How have you been able to address it?

Suzanne Quardt: The most common misconception about cosmetic surgery is that patients are fearful that they will look unnatural or ‘overdone.’ I am always explaining to patients that if and when they notice ‘bad work’ or unnatural results, that those people are in the minority. I go on to explain that there are indeed many people walking around out there with great, attractive and very natural results, but most would not even notice because it is ‘good work.’ Patients should always seek out well-trained, board-certified practitioners and surgeons with impeccable credentials, excellent reputations and who also serve on the staff of a reputable local hospital within the community.

Q: What is the best thing about working with clients in the Greater Palm Springs area?

SQ: The diversity. I have patients that range in age from children to teens, to adults in their 20s to 80s! I love meeting new and interesting people from all walks of life on a daily basis. Here, my male clientele is as strong as my female patient base. Since we live here in ‘paradise,’ I get to meet people from different parts of the state, country and world who wish to rejuvenate then recover in one of the most beautiful places on earth—it just doesn’t get better than that!

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a beauty/medical professional?

SQ: The most rewarding part of being a beauty/medical professional is the great honor and privilege of changing people’s lives permanently for the better, and improving quality of life and self-esteem. We can restore people who have lost parts of themselves through tragedies such as cancer with our reconstructive surgical efforts and we can also enhance a person’s physique through our meticulous, technical surgical expertise coupled with an artistic eye and complete knowledge of the human anatomy to deliver beautiful, safe and life-altering results. Seeing the smiles on patients’ and their familys’ faces after recovering from their procedure is unforgettable and the feeling is absolutely priceless!

Q: What keeps you inspired and motivated in working with your clients?

SQ: The honor and privilege of meeting new people with their unique sets of circumstances, issues and desires that presents a new challenge each time to help them live a better, fuller and richer life. Just like any artist, I get to work with a fresh canvas each and every day, and together we get to discover what’s possible!

Dr. Ritu Chopra, MS, MD, The Plastic Surgery Institute

Q: What’s the most common misconception about cosmetic surgery? How have you been able to address it?

Dr. Ritu Chopra, MS, MD: Patients’ biggest fear when considering plastic surgery is they think they are going to look overdone, and that everyone will know they have had something done. I aim for a more natural look and just like to enhance one’s natural beauty.

Q: What is the best thing about working with clients in the Greater Palm Springs area?

RC: Everyone is so nice and easy going. The community here is small and patients continue to return over and over in the years to come. You really develop such great relationships.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a beauty/medical professional?

RC: I love what I do. I love to help make people happy.

Q: What keeps you inspired and motivated in working with your clients?

RC: There is never a dull moment in plastic and reconstructive surgery. There is always a new obstacle or challenge to overcome. Every day comes with a new opportunity to enhance and change the lives of my patients.
