SoCal Restaurants Rally on Feb. 4 to Raise $1M for Wildfire Relief

One Day, One Goal: This Is a United Effort to Combat Food Insecurity After the Fires

Attention, Southern California! It’s time to show up in a big way. On Tuesday, Feb. 4, just five days before the big game, restaurants and businesses across six counties will unite for “The Big Day”—a record-breaking fundraiser set to raise $1 million for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

Spearheaded by Restaurants Give Back (formerly OC Restaurants Give), this initiative is the largest single-day coalition fundraising event in SoCal history. After successfully raising over $222,500 in just one day last month, this grassroots movement is expanding across Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties, calling on local businesses and diners to make a direct impact in wildfire relief efforts.

How It Works

Participating restaurants and businesses pledge to donate 20% of their total sales on Feb. 4 to the LA Food Bank, helping provide thousands of meals to those affected by food insecurity in the wake of the wildfires.

Jill Cook, co-founder of Restaurants Give Back, emphasizes the power of collective action:

“Last time, nearly 200 businesses joined in just five days. Imagine what we could do if restaurants across all six counties stepped up for this cause. Food insecurity is one of the most immediate threats these communities are facing, and this is our chance to make a real difference—together.”

Why It Matters

The impact of “The Big Day” extends far beyond a single meal. The initial effort provided nearly 750,000 meals, with 900,000 lbs of food distributed through emergency food boxes. This initiative ensures that families struggling in the aftermath of wildfires have access to nutritious meals during this critical time.

According to Chief Development Officer of the LA Food Bank Roger Castle, community-driven support like this creates long-term relief for individuals and families in need.

“This kind of mobilization is vital,” he says. “The generosity of local restaurants, businesses and diners will have a lasting impact. We are incredibly grateful for this support.”
