Sushi by the Sea Sarah Abelsohn

One of my favorite restaurants to grab takeout from is Sushi Nekosan, which I just found out existed due to my daily walks around downtown La Jolla during the pandemic. It’s a small place but they have THE best vegan sushi ever; I crave their Sweetie Pie and Taste Like Tuna rolls on a weekly basis. I always take my order to the beach near Marine Street as it’s less crowded and the ocean there specifically reminds me of the beaches in Europe, which gets me dreaming of all the travels I wish to do once this pandemic ends!

Thai This! Sarah Abelsohn

Bangkok Bay Solana Beach is one of those places where you will crave their food on a weekly basis. This hidden and tucked away restaurant in a random strip mall off Hwy 101 is home to the best Thai food you will have in all of San Diego! Try the summer rolls with tofu and peanut sauce and cashew chicken! Order extra peanut sauce; trust me on that one.

Food for Thought

NINE-TEN Restaurant & Bar at the Grande Colonial Hotel is one of my favorite people-watching spots in La Jolla. Everything from their burgers to their Rueben sandwiches are delicious, and it’s so much fun to take out-of-towners here. Sit outside on their patio and order off their fabulous wine list. What more do you need than a bottle of rosé and your favorite visitors?

Local Love what to Do in La Jolla

Marketplace Grille is a local business that I have been ordering to-go meals from on a weekly basis—it’s just one of those small joints that tastes like home. It has been a staple in the La Jolla community and offered amazing family meal deals during the height of the pandemic! The owner knows his customers by name and always throws in an extra hummus, extra soup or an extra side appetizer for the family.

Community Collabs

The partnership aspect of my role is actually the most fun. The focus of our #SelfCareSunday program, which is a series where we partner with a local fitness studio each month, is to put on a day that includes an outdoor fitness class, complimentary cocktails and snacks from amazing local vendors. Proud studio partners so far have included F45 La Jolla, The Boxing Club, CorePower Yoga, Club Pilates and YogaSix.
