This Food Festival at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal Boasts an All-Star Line-Up
If you have ever had the pleasure of passing through the tunnel that transports you from the chaos of downtown Cabo San Lucas to the tranquility of the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, you might be able to share my excitement about an amazing upcoming culinary offering that the resort is hosting this year. As a foodie and frequent traveler, I have been to many culinary events and many resorts around the globe. Few upcoming events have me as excited as the 2023 version of the Festival of Flavors at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal.
Once you pass through the hundreds of yards of solid rock with chandeliers guiding your way, your first view is of the sea. The resort is located on 24 acres of cliff-side terrain and offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, which you instantly feel connected to.
The resort’s commitment to authentic and unforgettable experiences rooted in Mexican culture and its exceptional dining offerings make it the perfect destination for any gourmet traveler.
In addition to its luxurious accommodations, Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is also known for its exceptional dining experiences. The resort features a number of on-site restaurants, including Don Manuel’s—and what might be the world’s most romantic restaurant, El Farallon. Others include The Agave Study at Peacock Alley, Neutral Coffee Lab and the debut of TRAVESÍA, a nine-course tasting menu all surrounding the beloved taco.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to attend the 2022 version of the resort’s Festival of Flavors culinary weekend series featuring Pizzeria Mozza’s Nancy Silverton and Nancy Oakes of Boulevard. We were blown away by the level of talent and passion on display. From the intimate welcome cocktail reception, replete with fireworks, to the highly sought-after private chef’s table dinner, every aspect of the event was thoughtfully curated and executed to perfection.
Our favorite part of the weekend was probably the tequila pairing where we sampled tequilas (five total tastings) paired with delicate bites from Executive Chef Pinet (I think it was our favorite part, but the five shots might have blurred my recollection).
And now, as the 2023 Festival of Flavors culinary weekend series approaches, I am beyond excited to see the lineup of renowned chefs that will be gracing the resort with their culinary expertise. With chefs like Val Cantu, Carlos Gaytán and Enrique Casarrubias, who have a deep understanding of Mexican flavors and culinary traditions, I know that this year’s event is going to be truly exceptional.
What to Expect:
The festival will showcase three renowned chefs throughout the year, each with deep roots in Mexican flavors and culinary traditions. This year’s talented lineup includes Chef Val Cantu, who will be honored on Feb. 16-20, 2023. Chef Cantu draws from his Latin heritage to create cuisine that has earned him Two Michelin Stars and Four Stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for his restaurant, Californios.
On April 13-16, 2023, Chef Carlos Gaytán will explore a full spectrum of flavors while perfecting heirloom recipes from his homeland. Chef Gaytan has become the first Mexican-born chef to earn a Michelin star and is now chef-owner of the world-renowned Tzuco in Chicago. Lastly, on November 9-12, 2023, Chef Enrique Casarrubias, the second Mexican Chef to obtain a Michelin star in France, will be joining from his acclaimed restaurant Oxte. Chef Casarrubias invites guests to travel with his dishes, which mix flavors from his childhood in Mexico with French gastronomy, resulting in a Michelin-star-winning combo.
The festival will start with an intimate welcome cocktail reception, giving guests the opportunity to mingle with the visiting chefs and taste some of their signature dishes. Throughout the resort, guests will have various chef takeover experiences, providing them with access to visiting chefs and a chance to explore their unique cooking styles and techniques. The highlight of the festival is the highly sought-after private chef’s table dinner, which will feature a multi-course tasting menu showcasing each chef’s signature cooking styles and Executive Chef Gustavo Pinet’s culinary talent. This will be a night to remember as guests will be transported on a culinary journey rooted in Mexican culture, traditions and heritage.
So, if you’re a foodie like myself or just looking for an unforgettable getaway, I highly recommend attending the 2023 Festival of Flavors at Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal. Trust me; it will be a culinary journey like no other!
