It’s not uncommon to crave Italian food when you’re on a seaside vacay, and that’s where Olivine fits into your Grand Wailea respite. Named after one of Maui’s primary minerals, Olivine tricks your senses into thinking you’re on the Mediterranean, with an alfresco setting and all the handmade pasta you could ask for. Kick off lunch with some bubbly or settle into dinner with a Smoke Over Pompei—an appropriately titled aperitif made with bourbon, green walnut liqueur and two types of amaro. If you’re at the resort on a Friday, don’t miss the Vino Flights & Bites Series during happy hour. Space is limited, so take advantage of their virtual concierge before you arrive!

Tin Roof Maui

When you’re ready to step out from the resort, we recommend dropping by Tin Roof Maui for some reimagined mom-and-pop takeout. Grab a poke bowl to go, then post up at a nearby beach for a picnic before joining a game of volleyball or flying a kite with the kiddos. Check out the daily menu and even order online. This shop was designed to rejoice in rain on a tin roof, which is a reminder to those who call Hilo home. Honest ono food is what you’ll find here, made by a renowned local chef who knows the true value of community.

72-Hour Maui Guide

Wailea means “waters of Lea” in Hawaiian—in fact, Wailea is the goddess of canoe builders. It makes sense then that joining an Outrigger Tour would be at the top of your list during a stay at Grand Wailea. Climb into a traditional outrigger canoe and take a guided paddling journey along the golden coast. Plan ahead and book a spot—limited seating is available each morning—then arrive at 7 a.m. for two hours of snorkeling or one hour of turtle watching. And if you’re lucky to be there from December to April, you might spot a whale or two!

Snorkel with Turtles

Now, more about those turtles! This family-friendly Maui activity lets you get up close and personal with Maui’s famous sea turtles. The guides are so confident that you’ll see the turtles that they offer a money-back guarantee if you don’t. This specialized outrigger tour paddles along Maui’s South shores and provides snorkel gear for the experience. These friendly creatures, called “honu” in Hawaiian, are ready to say hello. These semi-private tours start at 7 a.m. daily and run for one hour.

Waterfall Swim at Twin Falls

When you make your way to Hana, be sure to stop by Twin Falls for a dip before you continue the journey. These falls and pools are the first easily accessible water features on the drive to Hana. And rumor has it that the parking lot features one of the best snack stands on this road. Take note that this 1.8-mile out-and-back trail is popular—so popular that sometimes tourists get turned away. But don’t let that deter you since any journey on Maui is really the destination. Non-Hawaii residents will be charged $10 to park and enter. Also, keep in mind that the first Saturday of every month is reserved for Maui residents.
