Come See Why Carb and Coffee Lovers Are Screaming
If the thought of pillowy soft bread, crispy French toast and handcrafted pastries gets your heart racing, there’s a new spot in Los Angeles you need to know about. Bread, Espresso &, the famed Japanese bakery and cafe, has officially opened its first U.S. location in Redondo Beach, bringing its signature mou bread and cafe delights to the South Bay.

Founded in Omotesando, Tokyo, in 2009, Bread, Espresso & has built a devoted following across Japan. The cafe’s 37 locations are known for expertly crafted baked goods and high-quality coffee. Now, this cult-favorite bakery has brought its artful approach to breadmaking stateside. It blends Japanese precision with California ease at its new Pacific Coast Highway location.

At the helm of this Redondo Beach cafe is Executive Chef Sakurai Tadatsugu, who relocated from Japan to oversee the kitchen. With 16 years of experience crafting the brand’s famed menu, he’s introducing Japan’s most famous French toast and the bakery’s signature mou bread—a cube-shaped loaf that’s impossibly soft on the inside, crisp on the outside and available in variations like matcha whip, chocolate and cranberry walnut. The indulgence continues with the oven-baked mou French toast, served in a mini cast iron skillet for the perfect bite of caramelized crispiness and melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

Savory lovers, don’t worry—this Redondo Beach restaurant is far from just a coffee and pastry pitstop. Menu highlights include the mou soup bowl, served with either lobster bisque or clam chowder, plus croque madame, croque monsieur and mou sausage. Meanwhile, a stacked sandwich lineup offers flavor-packed options like ginger pork, honey ham potato salad and Tandoori chicken. There’s also a selection of paninis with prosciutto mozzarella, smoked salmon cream cheese and turkey ham kinpira. To round it all out? A full coffee bar featuring Caffe Luxxe beans, premium teas and specialty mocktails for a refreshing twist.
The 2,000-square-foot coffee shop in Redondo Beach is thoughtfully designed. The space features minimalist Japanese aesthetics, warm wood accents and seating for 32. It offers both an inviting dine-in experience and grab-and-go convenience. So, stop by and settle in for a leisurely brunch with ocean views or grab a fresh-baked loaf to take home. This Redondo Beach restaurant is poised to become a new go-to cafe and bakery in Los Angeles.
